Always resume

Jun 02, 2014

I have created variables to track a user's progress through "chapters" in my Storyline project which displays progress in a "Chapters Completed" box.  When a user closes the program and comes back at a later date, these variables seem to disappear and the "Chapters Completed" box is empty.  I have selected "Always resume" in the player and unchecked "When running in LMS, ignore Flash cookie".  Why does my user lose this information?  Is there any way a user can come back and still have the variables retained?

I would try checking the "When running in LMS, ignore Flash cookie" option and test again.

See here for info on how the player's resume behaviour is set, especially this bit:

If you choose Always or Prompt, and if you'll be hosting your content in an LMS, do one of the following:

  • If your LMS supports bookmarking, mark the box labeled When running in LMS, ignore Flash cookie. The LMS will control resume behavior in this scenario.
  • If your LMS does not support bookmarking, uncheck When running in LMS, ignore Flash cookie. The Flash cookie will control resume behavior in this scenario."

I am not publishing to LMS.  I am publishing for Web so I have no SCORM options.  I have unchecked the When running in LMS, ignore Flash cookie box.  If a user closes my program and then re-opens it the variables are retained.  If they completely log out of the website and then log back in the variables are gone.

Hi Laurie,

If you're using the publish to web option, and your website requires that users log in - could it be clearing out their history and cache when they log out? The resume data is held in a Flash cookie - so if the web site or the user is clearing out that information it would not be saved - or if they're accessing the course from another computer.

This sounds like our scenario.  Thank you all for your support on this!
