An extremely complicated problem with Results.Score variables.

May 29, 2014

Okay, this is going to take some serious explaining, but I'd like you to go through this with me.

Open up the file and take a look around inside.  You will see some "data" slides, two "activity" slides with their own results slides (which are necessary if we want the user to come back to them), and a quiz with two questions, it's own results slide, followed by a super results slide that adds everything together.  The focus here will be the buttons on the final results slide that allow the user to go back to those activities in case they were skipped.

Just for starters, preview the course and go through it normally, getting everything correct, just to get a feel for the course.  Then, do the course again, but skip the activities by using the Menu to go straight to "Data 3" from the beginning, miss both of the quiz questions, and end up with 0 points.  Use the Missed Activity Buttons to do the activities, using the "Return to Results" button to go back to the final Results slide each time.  Then Retry the Quiz and get all of the points, passing the course.  Again, this is just to help you get a feel for what's going on.

NOW!  Here's where the problem shows up.

Redo the preview, as if you're using the course for the first time, skip the activities, miss both of the quiz questions, and reach the final results slide with 0 points.  Click on the first Missed Activity button, do the activity, get its results slide, but DO NOT click on "Return to Results"!  Instead, use the Menu to go to Activity 2, do that activity, THEN click on "Return to Results".  This will take you to the final Results screen, and this is where you can see the problem.

By comparing the Score with the Points counter (an independent variable), we see that for some reason, Activity 2's points aren't being added to the final score.  I'm really not sure what I'm missing here, but if you could take a look at this and provide some feedback on how I may be able to resolve this, I would appreciate it.  If you have any questions let me know.
