Android mobile app ...library?

Mar 23, 2016

Hi again

I have the android mobile app on my tablet and I wish to simply copy a published project from my laptop.

On the laptop I have xmapp apache server to which I can copy my files for testing.

Does anyone know where I should copy the files for the offline library to find them i.e. the player app.

Is there a folder to which I can copy the stuff?

thanks

Brian

Thank you for replying. I have indeed.

It says this...

"When content is published with the offline viewing feature enabled, you'll have an option to download it to your Articulate Mobile Player library. When you do, you can view it at any time with or without an Internet connection."

I have published the course. With the "offline" option checked and it publishes as it always does.

The aritculate app on my android tablet simply has a window with library and favourites button at the top, with no options for searching for any materials etc.

I am able to copy the files to my local webserver to test and I am also able to publish to local harddrive and run the html file.

I can find no documentation whatsoever regarding the mobile app with any instructions how I might get a course into the library. I can no guidance whether the app may be customised or configured.

I think maybe I am missing something. Have I misunderstodd completely.

Thanks

Brian

Hi, Brian -- Thanks for the additional details and my apologies if we are experiencing some miscommunication. In order to access a course via the Articulate Mobile Player app., please take a moment to run through the information presented here on Publishing a Course for Mobile Devices, as it covers how a course needs to be uploaded to the Web initially in order to then be downloaded to the Articulate Mobile Player. Please let us know if that makes sense or if you still need help! :)

Hi Christine  .. thanks again for reply. No need to apologise, as an older person I am a bit slow these days.

I am quite ok with publishing to a server and the accessing with a browser. What I can then see is how, once accessed with a browser the thing will appear in my library.

I assume there will be an opportunity to download to device and that this will put it where the adroid app will find it.

I was hoping that I would be able to just copy the published files to a folder where the app would find it....i.e a logical link to the library.

Hi, Brian -- Many thanks for your reply, and can we step back a moment to confirm that you have the "Use Articulate Mobile Player for iOS or Android" box checked, in ADDITION to the "Allow downloading for offline viewing" box?

If the "Use Articulate Mobile Player for iOS or Android" box had been checked, it would have automatically prompted the Articulate Mobile Player to open, and your course would then be in your library:

Please see here for additional details:

  • If learners will be using iPads or Android tablets, mark the box to Use Articulate Mobile Player for iOS or Android for the best viewing experience. (Anyone can download the free Articulate Mobile Player app from the iTunes App Store or the Android Market.)
  • If learners will be using the Articulate Mobile Player app and you want to let them view content without an Internet connection, mark the box to Allow downloading for offline viewing.

You may also find this article, How to Distribute Articulate Storyline Content for Flash, HTML5, and the Articulate Mobile Player, to be helpful, as well! :)

Thanks again Christine.

Yes I am doing those things, although one of the links gave me more information.

I will publish my file and then download to my android device. I will then ferret around to see if I am able to find the files so that I know where/how storyline stores the library.

Thank you for being so helpful as usual. This is a steep learning curve but I am finding storyline to be extraordinarily flexible.

Best wishes

Brian

Certainly, Brian, and please feel free to let us know if there is anything more we can do to assist!

And on a side note, as you mentioned you are in the process of getting familiar with Storyline 2, I thought you might want to peruse the following general resources whenever you have a chance... lots of cool tips and tricks in store!
