Animate Talking

May 14, 2015

I imported a character from a PowerPoint presentation.  If possible, I'd like to animate this character to be "talking".  How would I do this?  Thanks for your assistance.

I haven't found a way to do this in Storyline. There is however, a program I found here in the Forums where you can assign a Text to a character and lip sync' the audio to make it seem that the character is the one talking. You can sign up for a free 14 day trial there and it has a wide variety of cartoon characters. It's www.goanimate.com

There was also an example here in the forums, where the user somehow downloaded the video in mp4 format and inserted it in a Storyline file.

I got hooked in Goanimate for a while, it's so much fun.... but of course not as GREAT as Storyline.....  right moderators...?

If you are going to try it, I suggest getting the DUIK tools to animate the characters. This has been the best tool in after effects to animate characters.  This makes it very easy to create a character rig.

There are plenty of tutorials to learn how to use it.

Also here is tutorial on how to lip sync the characters.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1627kdaen1Q

Use the Moho Script for this.  Makes it super easy.

Hi Alfred! Not sure if Elisa is still subscribed to the thread, but you are welcome to reach out to the user directly via the Contact Me option on the user profile if needed.

In your attached file, the states of normal and talking are the same image.

Did you take a peek at the file that Elisa shared above with the various states to simulate 'talking'?

Alfred, I have the first version of Storyline, so it doesn't let me open your file which I imagine was created in Storyline 2. If you open the file I created, you will find that the character has several states opening and closing his mouth and smiling. To make the character change from one state to another, I just added triggers along with rectangles that I inserted outside the slide. Each trigger is attached to each rectangle inserted. The trigger should be like this:

Change state of CHARACTER1 to STATE2

when Timeline starts for RECTANGLE1

Then you can replicate this trigger for all the rectangles you insert and you can alternate the states so you can simulate mouth movement.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions
