Animated .gif plays incorrectly

Jul 29, 2014

I have an animated .gif that is supposed to play once (no looping) at a frame delay of 0.03 seconds. When I created it in Photoshop Elements, it worked just fine; when I open it outside of PE, it works just fine. When I insert it into my Storyline project and preview, it plays on infinite repeat ten times slower.

Am I missing a Storyline setting somewhere? Should I be converting this into something that Storyline can understand?

Hi StatEase,

Thanks for sharing your file here, and I see the behavior you're referring to. I actually have seen it before in this thread, and as I shared there:

I did a bit more digging through some older forum threads, and found that a similar situation was reported to our QA team for review. At this time I don't have any updates to share in regards to that issue, but I've included this thread in the report with your sample gif that I was able to import into Storyline. The workaround that was shared with the other user who reported it is included below for you:

In the meantime, I suggest converting your GIF into a video as a workaround. Here's one method that you can try out.

If I have any additional updates to share, I'll post them here for you.
I will also add this thread to the existing QA report, but I don't have any updates to share at this time.

Hi all,

I wanted to provide an update here, as Storyline 2 Update 10 was just released, and included a number of fixes which you can see in the release notes available here. The items you all may be particularly interested in are the following:  Fixed issue where a non-looping GIF would unexpectedly loop in Storyline and it fixed the issue where an animated GIF wouldn't always start playing at the beginning of the animation when it appeared on the slide. You can download the latest update here, and after downloading and installing the latest update you’ll want to republish any existing content to ensure that the updates and fixes are applied.
