animation and motion path not working at same time!

Okay, probably something simple but I can't see it!

I want to use a motion path and the shrink animation at the same time, but for some reason it will only use one or the other! The object is supposed to move and shrink as soon as the slide starts, but I can get one or the other to work properly, just not both at the same time.

What am I missing?
