Animation of Textbox "By first Level Paragraph"

I'm trying to have a textbox animate four different topics one by one, and I have bullet points under some of the topics. It looks something like this:
Topic 1
bullet point 1
bullet point 2
bullet point 3
Topic 2
bullet point 1
Topic 3
Topic 4
My expectation is the bullet points will animate with the topic if I choose the option "By first level paragraph" for the animation (since they are not "first level paragraphs"). This is how it would work in PowerPoint/Presenter. Unfortunately, they keep coming up one by one after the topic has animated. Is this functionality not intended to work as I am expecting?

Hi Josh,
It sounds like you want them to animate "all at once". If you animate them "by first level paragraph", you can adjust the timing for each line of text by clicking the triangle next to your text box in the timeline to expand its contents. Then you can modify the timing for each line of text individually.
No, if I choose animate "all at once", all 4 topics are displayed at the same time. I want the topics and their related bullets to come up together, but each topic should be staggered.
It seems the functionality you suggested with the traingle does the trick. I swear I tried this before and only changing the speed of the animation had any effect on timing. It is working now though, thanks.
Cool, glad it's working!
I'm trying to use the "by first level paragraph" option to individually have bulleted or numbered text appear as the audio plays. I've timed out said bullet points with the audio; however, multiple bullet points appear at the same time instead of individually as I intended with my timeline. When I preview the scene the same issue continues to happen and the bullet points do not appear individually but in clumps which is not how I have this laid out in Storyline. Can you offer any suggestions about something I may be missing? Thank you for your time!
Hi Michelle,
Sorry to hear about the trouble!
Are you able to post the .STORY file of the project here, so we can take a look at what's happening? If the project file is too large, please try importing just the problem slides into a new file.
Thanks!
Christine
Hi Christine,
Attached below is a slide that I'm having issues with. Thank you for your help, really appreciate it! I had everything set go automatically by first line paragraph but all the numbers aren't automatically going as I'd like. They appear in clumps of more than one number at a time. If you review the audio and the timeline, you'll see I tried to get each individual number to appear as it is mentioned in the audio but unfortunately when I allow Storyline to automatically break up the numbers they appear in clumps when you view the file, versus individually as I'd like them to appear.
Also, the first large paragraph shows up one line (and too soon) and then when the entire paragraph should appear, it does but another extra line below it also appears. If you have any ideas of what I'm doing wrong here, I'd greatly appreciate it! This first line paragraph is a nice trick to save time if it works... Thank you!
Much appreciated,
Michelle Gigowski
Christine,
All of my slides I'm using the "by first line paragraph" are having this issue, I just uploaded one slide so you knew what I was talking about. Thanks!

Hi Michelle,
I apologize in the delay. I've been testing the file you sent and I experienced the same issues. I did a little extra testing and research, and I found a similar issue that's currently being tested by our Quality Assurance team.
I've tried a few things to resolve the issue:
However, the issue remains. I've shared your original file and my test files with our QA team. I'll try to provide additional information as soon as I have it.
In the meantime, it might be a good idea to try placing smaller sections of text with the animation, or providing separate text boxes in the timeline. You can arrange them to appear with your existing cuepoints and this should eliminate the overlapping and incorrect timings. I realize this is extra work, but I hope this is a temporary workaround that will help with your project. If you have trouble with setting this up, please let me know.
Thanks!
Christine
One thing I wanted to add -
Recreating the text (entering it in again manually) did improve the animation, but it seems to break around the last 3 lines.
Thank you for your feedback. This cue point "by first line paragraph" would be perfect if it worked correctly. And it would save much time indeed. Hopefully this gets worked out soon so I can use this feature with future projects.
I appreciate you timely feedback and look forward to the QA team's response.
Thank you,
Michelle
Michelle/Christine,
Did this problem get resolved, or did you find an easy workaround? I am experiencing the same issue and would love an easier fix than recreating all of the slides with separate text boxes.
Thanks!
Dan
Hi Dan!
This thread is a bit dated.
Are you utilizing Storyline 1?
You may find that text is missing or doesn't animate onto the slide as expected when the following conditions are true:
This is a known issue. To correct it, ungroup the text box from all other objects.
Hi, in storyline 3 the animation "Wipe" with Effect Options "By paragraph" doesn't look good. Do you know why?
Hello Federico!
I'm not sure that I know why, but I do know that this has been reported to our team.
I will add this thread for user awareness and so that we can update here when applicable.
Here's some information on how we handle bugs.
Hey Frederico-- I have some great news!
We just released another update for Articulate 360, and included a few important fixes and new features that you'll see in the release notes here.
This update fixes the issue you reported where the Wipe animation sequenced by paragraph didn't work as expected in HTML5 output.
Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for each application. Details here.
Please let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly!
I am using SL3 and i dont seem to be able to get the EXPAND triangle next to the text box is the text has an animation. If i offset the lines in the text box in the timeline then try to add an animation the lines all realign to the left. Is that normal ?
THanks
Are you animating by first level paragraph? If so, no that certainly does not sound normal.
Would you be able to share a sample .story slide for us to take a look at? That would be helpful.
Ouch, I just left for long trip, when I get there I will try to extract a few slides.
No worries Philippe - enjoy your trip!
Actually I realize you have the file it is in Case #01224198: by I don't know off hand which slides. I think in scene around 49-56?
Hi Philippe,
I see you shared your file with our team via a Dropbox link, but I was unable to download that file because it says the file has been removed from the Dropbox folder.
Would you mind sharing a sample of that file with us here? Even one or two slides will do. Thanks!
Yes I am in a long trip but will try when I get back! Thanks
We'll be here when you're ready, Philippe! 😄
Here is a fresh link :)

No, and yes.
If you apply an animation, and set the animation option to by paragraph, you should definitely be able to expand the text box in the timeline.
Yes, anytime you change an animation on a text box, it defaults to re-aligning all the individual elements to the left.
