I'm pleased to announce that Storyline 2 Update 5 is now available. This update makes it easier to create accessible e-learning content, improves HTML5 performance, and of course squashes lots of bugs. Read all about it now (or just jump over to the update page).
We have a client who use Internet Explorer 8 in their site and we have created modules for them which work fine. Since this upgrade anything that we update and publish for them does not work on IE 8 anymore but can work on google chrome. This client can not push google chrome out across the trust for a while now. Any idea why this is not working on their site.
We have tested a file published before the upgrade and then after and it doesn't work with the file published after. We are having so many problems since this last upgrade which is causing us a lot more work. After reading a lot of these issues that has been caused something really needs to be done about it. We moved away from Adobe Captivate because there is always bugs and rather than them fixing it they just bring a new version out. We thought that Articulate was the way forward but since this update we are re-thinking that this may have been the wrong choice!
I haven't heard of a specific issue with IE8 and update 5 of Storyline 2, but would be happy to take a look at one of your courses if you're able to share. If you're able to share here, please include a copy of the .story file using the "add attachment" button. You could also send it along to our team ehre.
Aaron, My major client also runs mainly IE8 on XP. I've had no issues since upgrade 5. In fact is was a huge relief to see this particular upgrade as it fixed so many things.
Apart from testing on a number of physical test machines I also test all my courses on Browserstack which is an online testing platform which gives you access to every operating system and browser combination for PC, tablet and phone. You may want to put your affected courses on Scorm cloud and then try viewing them with IE8 through Browserstack.
When I read the post yesterday it said the thread was 8 hours old so naturally I thought it could be a new update. I asked because it seemed a bit unusual.
I'm quite new to Storyline 2 and have just downloaded Update 5, however when I clicked 'run' I was given a box to uninstall storyline 2. Is this normal? Do I have to uninstall and then re-install the new version which includes the update? I was expecting to just install update 5 to the existing version.
Hi Linda, Yes that is normal. In fact is it very important that you uninstall the previous version. When you have upgraded and restart Storyline again it will appear that you are on the 30day trial. Just hit the 'Activate' option and your previous serial number will automatically be populated for you.
Linda, if you have any difficulties uninstalling or installing the update you can definitely let us know here and feel free to connect with our Support engineers for some one on one assistance.
The company I work for just updated my Storyline 1 to Storyline 2. When I saw that there was an update, I started to update.
But then, when I started the update, I was asked whether I wanted to uninstall Storyline. Until I know what's going on, I declined to uninstall the software.
I was looking for a readme file that might walk me through the update, but failing that, decided that this was probably the best place to ask about this.
When you click to open an SL1 file it will open and convert to SL2 but it also saves a backup copy in SL1 format. To actually open a file in SL1 you have to have SL1 open and then select the file from the Open menu, i.e., you can't open a file in SL1 by double clicking it; you have to open it from within the application.
When updating say from Storyline 2 Update 4 to Update 5, you'll want to follow the directions to first uninstall and then install the update. As Brett mentioned Storyline 1 and 2 can coexist on the same system/PC - so you should be good to go there.
It sounds like you're current with your SL2 updates, and SL1 is on Update 8. If you need to be sure that other folks can edit your SL1 files you won't be able to make any changes to them in SL2 as it's not backwards compatible.
Now that's something I didn't know! Cool! thanks. One question Brett: I've been opening SL1 files for ages by double-clicking on them in Windows Explorer. Is it just these backup files I need to open by using the Open command inside SL1?
Yup - I know some folks (like myself) can also do it from Explorer by right clicking on the document to open and then choosing the program with which to open it.
I initially tried that, but saw that the .story extension defaulted to SL2, and I was just too darned lazy to navigate through my folders to find the .exe for SL1.

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for sharing that here and letting us know that Update 5 and IE8 are working well for you. That'll be good information going forward.
Is this different from the one that came out a few weeks ago?
Hi James,
I'm not sure I understand the question? There has only been Update 5 recently and it was released May 7th.
When I read the post yesterday it said the thread was 8 hours old so naturally I thought it could be a new update. I asked because it seemed a bit unusual.
Hi James,
I think it was just another post that made it appear as a new post to you - but the update was in May and nothing new since than.

Like lightening Trevor - beat me to it! :-)

You can keep SL1 on the same PC. I keep both installed.
I'm doing that. I'm the first on my team to get the update, so I still need to be able to edit SL1 files without updating the files to V2.
Turns out I'm running update 5.1505.515 (it helps to read the Help/About stuff!). I presume I'm already current then.

Thanks Ashley. I'm tuned in to the need to not open files in SL2 that others may need to access in SL1.

Hi Chris,
If you have SL1 and SL2 installed on the same system, project files will always try to open in the latest edition of Storyline.
OK. Sounds pretty normal. I'll just have to be in the application, for sure, then, if I want to open the backup files in SL1.
In the mean time, I'm trying to get our folks to upgrade all our licenses.
Thanks.
