Announcing Storyline 2 Update 7, Storyline 1 Update 10, and Articulate Updater (iOS 9 support)

Sep 15, 2015

Hi everyone,

Good news: We just released updates to Storyline 2, Storyline 1, and the Articulate Updater to add support for iOS 9 in published output.

Apple plans to release iOS 9 tomorrow (September 16, 2015).

The Storyline 2 update also adds support for Google Chrome 44 and later on Android devices, and crushes a few bugs.

Get these latest updates here:

The Articulate Updater scans and updates Storyline 2, Storyline 1, and Studio '13 published content to make it compatible with iOS 9 without having to re-publish your courses.

We're working on finalizing Studio '13 Update 7 for iOS 9 support, which we'll release soon.

Update: Studio '13 Update 7 with iOS 9 support is also available.

We'll auto-update all published Articulate Online content soon, too.

Hi Linda,

You'd need to download the latest update and republish a course to use whatever features and bug fixes were included. The exception to that is if you're going to run the Articulate Updater that dealt with the Chrome HTML5 output for the Apple iOS9 issues here.  That'll update previously  published content to run in those environments.

We are getting a major issue when publishing out content after the new update. The HTML5 output is not working on any system as it is throwing JavaScript errors where the global variable is no longer defined in the player_compiled.js file. This is causing us major issues as no content will load on an iPad. Any ideas why? Has anyone else had the same problem?

So looking into this further. It is throwing an error as the title of the content is going on to two lines in the JavaScript. This works fine in the previous version. I have tested publishing this in both the previous and new version and it works fine in the previous but not in the latest. I have attached a screenshot of the issue in my developer tools.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for reaching out here and sharing that info. I do see a similar issue reported to our QA team in regards to the HTML5 content and some javascript errors but to confirm that you're experiencing the same thing - I'd like to have you work with our Support engineers to share one of your files and let them do some testing. Can you connect with them here?  Please let me know once you've submitted a case so that I can follow along and share the potential issue with them as well.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that image - did you follow along with the steps here? It said it only scanned 5 folders in that image - do you know when they were originally published? It may be easier to diagnose by working with our Support team here, but you could also look at republishing them in the meantime using Storyline 2 Update 7 if you're under a tight deadline.

Thanks Ashley. We figured out the issue. The individual who was running this hadn't uninstalled a previous installation of version 1. Once they did, they were able to install and run version 2 and that fixed the issue. So do our developers who are using Articulate to publish content need to do anything so that new content they publish moving forward will not run into this issue and the updater won't have to be run against it? We just updated Storyline 2 Update 7 and republished the content. We get the launch button. But clicking on launch button nothing happens.

When I held the launch button down with my finger and all of a sudden, this popped up (outlined in red by me in the attached screen shot):

When you select “Open in “Articulate” it opens up and operates normally!

Could you please help me resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Senthil

Hi Senthil,

I haven't seen t hat when using my own iPad and iOS9 - but a longer click will normally give you those two options for hyperlinks or embedded links. You mentioned clicking on it didn't do anything, but could you see the button depress? I know that sometimes on tablets it seems like I've clicked on it - but may need to just ensure I clicked on it by looking for that change in the button.

Hi,

Upon clicking on the button I see the button depress. But it didn't do anyting

Thanks,
Senthil Maruthamuthu

Hi Senthil,

Just to confirm - you republished the content using the latest update, and loaded into your LMS. Did you look at clearing the browser cache or history or testing on a new iPad? I've heard of some other users who saw the same behavior after fixing the course, but it's because the browser was still accessing the cached version. If you'd like to share a link to the course I'm happy to test it on my iPad as well.

Good morning! Has anyone experienced issues with the Storyline 2 Update 7, and just regular HTML5 output with iOS9, not using the Articulate Mobile app? I haven't updated my software yet, because I have read about issues with the update crashing courses on iPads, but also realized most of these posts mention the Articulate player. I publish our courses for Cornerstone OnDemand, which uses its own app for E-Learning courses, and we don't use the Articulate mobile app. I'm wary of updating until I hear back, because our company is republishing and redesigning all of our desktop courses for iPads. I was able to view one of the courses created pre Update 7 on an iPad with iOS 9, and it worked fine.

Thank you!

-Rachel
