Another HTML question!

Apr 20, 2016

Hi, I realize Storyline2 isn't really an HTML program and is only supported in Chrome, but I was wondering if there is a 'best practices' list if a course is gong to be viewed as HTML?

I've done one which is fine in Flash but has weird things happening in HTML:

  • square characters appearing instead of spaces (probably typeface?)
  • button rollovers appearing to flash - because the text on top/above the button stops the rollover action?
  • some button states not changing

Thanks!

Square characters... Have you copied and pasted text into Storyline from another source, like Microsoft Word? Sometimes I've seen weird characters carry over into HTML from Word.

Button states... These can be problematic at times even using the Flash output.  One suggestion would be to try to avoid using the built-in "Normal" state.  I have trouble triggering the button state back to Normal sometimes, but if I duplicate the Normal state and call it something else most of the time it works ok for me.

Hi Steven,

We'd be happy to take a look at the course as well and see if we're able to determine any odd behavior that may be occuring in your HTML5 output. Are you also testing this by uploading to a web server or viewing it locally? The button flashing, similar to what Brian mentioned it may be that if you're adding triggers to control it vs. letting the states behave as designed and detailed here that you may be running into issues.
