Any way I can get a huge file with a hundred or more slides to tes

Nov 12, 2013

I am new to storyline.  I have tens of thousands of hours time developing programs using Trainersoft for the last 16 years.  I have nearly a hundred programs.  Most are from 50 to 200 screens over the length of the program.

When I compile this to a SCORM package it typically has two to three thousand files in the package before I upload it.

I purchased Storyline over a year ago but have yet to start anything as it's such a daunting task... there's no way to "convert" any of my courses, none are in powerpoint, all in Trainer.

I'm worried about the sheer size of some of these courses -- storyline will probably be much leaner than Trainersoft because I can use one frame or "scene" to provide multiple interactions.

But I'm worried about storyline bogging down with a large number of slides/screens/scenes.

Is there any way I could get a really big practice file - a complete project from somewhere so I could load it in to storyline and watch it compile... as opposed to spending dozens of hours building something only to find out it might be to slow for me to create my courses as big as they are?

Some of my trainer scorm packages are close to 200 mb in size and have 3000 files in the package.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi Jim,

We don't have anything off-hand, but you could do the following. Create one slide that is indicative of what you'll be creating, and then copy and paste that slide until you get a total of twenty in one scene. Then you could copy that scene multiple times until you get a size that you feel is representative for testing. I hope that makes sense.

Always Happy to Help,

Jim:

I used to use Trainersoft before we switched to version 5 of Articulate Studio many years ago.  I was faced with a similar dilemma and chose to start over.  When I reviewed the older packages, I realized that they had a dated look and feel to them with older style graphics.  I also found that a lot of the text needed to be updated as well.  I found no viable way to migrate any of the content so we prioritized them based on need and starting creating new packages.  It actually went faster than I thought.  Your work may be more current than mine was but changing platforms always offers a chance to recreate.

One other point, I have found that Articulate, whether Studio or Storyline, produces much more compact packages than Trainersoft and we have experienced almost no bandwidth issues compared to Trainersoft which often had latency issues loading. It also compiles much faster than Trainersoft did.

Good luck with the conversion.  I know it is daunting now, but I think you will be happy with the end result.

Brent
