Put a shape on top on the text and make that 50% transparent with no borders. Just right-click on the shape and select Format shape > Fill and select solid fill. You set transparency there.
Or make the text an image (you can export text--just right-click and choose "Save as picture." Re-import that back in and right-click on the image and select Format Shape and make that 50% transparent.

If by translucent, you mean transparent . . .
