Been working hardcore in Storyline for a week now - all in all it's pretty cool, except the fact that it crashes often when i am pressing the space bar to preview my slides without actually clicking the preview button....if that makes any sense, haha.
It's happened 6 times today.
Maybe we're not really supposed to use that timeline feature? or maybe my project is kinda heavy asset wise
My Storyline is crashing so often when I try to use the timeline to preview or when I preview the slide/scene and click on the seekbar, that I am beginning to believe it is a feature. Sadly, not one that I think I can sell to my manager
I would be interested in knowing what fix was done on Sara's module as insane number of crashes seems to be localised to the module I am currently working on.
I will also get IT to do the re-install flash thing and see if that helps. I did have them put the ltest flash on but it has done nothing to help.
Update: I uninstall flash (as outlined above) and then install the latest version. This was no help at all.
So I had IT uninstall flash and install the version of flash that we have on the virtual network and that I had previously been testing to ensure modules don't crash when a person runs them from our LMS. This version worked much better. I may speak too soon but I was able to play the slide using the timeline, stopping and pausing and moving to different parts successfullly. The preview slide/scene was still a problem but I got that grey circle with the exclamation mark, not a total program crash meaning I could just close the preview and reopen it.
The version of flash I am using is: 11.2.202.235
Again this isn't the latest version, but it was more stable, which I guess is why Adobe replaced it, because they are good like that.
Would still love to hear what was done to Sara's module to fix it.
Same problem here, same setup as Mike with a slightly different video card. I've been saving as often as possible to prevent the loss of progress, but it's happening more and more frequently as I continue to build the course. Also, when I relaunch the program and open the file, all the scenes/slides are tabbed at the top (even though I closed them down and saved on multiple occasions).
I'm not sure yet if this is related to the preview function since it happens at random times (clicking an image, closing a tab, etc). My project is pretty big at 103MB (I don't compress my graphics though I probably should! XP) and it seems to get worse with the more content I add.
I Haven't even tried publishing the course or testing it on our LMS. Hopefully it works **fingers crossed**.
I have just had some module come back from UAT for a few minor fix ups and noticed that I am able to use the 'preview scene/slide' function fine on all parts. I can use the timeline preview fine as well (although it still does't update when you move things around and then press play).
This got me thinking so I went back to the module with the crashing issue and found that I can actually do all preview types on all the tutorials except the one I created last and that was crashing in the preview(all tutorials are made of several videos all recodred in Storyline). Even though updating flash has made this tutorial crash less... actually it crashes just as often but doesn't freeze Storyline when it does. Anyway I have come to decide that the problem is not with flash but is with one of the videos that makes up the tutorial.
Of particular note, the tutorial causing the problems has a lot of trimming done to the screen recording in video encoder. I did this to add a few parts to the screen recording that I had overlooked in the first recording. As this is only trimming and not cutting away the video (a feature I actually really like) all the combined videos would make for a very very large file size for the tutorial.
In conclusion I would suggest thet either a particular video has become corrupt for some unknown reason, or the file size is too large to play the preview correctly, or that with all the trimming Storline is getting stuck on the switch between videos.
Either way if you are getting this error I would suggest you update flash and re-record your screen capture with as little trimming and joins as possible.
In the case #, put attention Brian Batt. In the Forums URL box, put the link to this forum. Once I get the file, I'll see if I can reproduce the issue. If you can, go through the file & see if you can figure out exactly what steps cause the file to crash and include that information in your case submission.
Coincidentally this fault was occuring in the same taining module as one I was having problems with WebObjects when publishing to EXE.
So when I uploaded that module (scrubbed a bit) as a case (RE: Case #00284537) I left the videos with the preview fault in it in the unlikely case the two problems are related. John Say picked up the case and I have included in emails to him what steps cause both the preview and WebObject faults.
I downloaded a free trial of Storyline. I would like to record a screen capture to embed in a presentation. Everytime I click on "Record Screen" --> "Record your screen", the program crashes.
Any idea of how I can successfully record my screen?

Hi Brittany,
Do you receive an error message during the crash or does it completely crash Storyline without a message?

Hi James,
Thanks for the information. I had our support team submit the web object issue to our dev team. I also submitted the memory issue to them for review.
I also wanted to check-in with you; I am experiencing similar issues with a Storyline Trial Version. I've got my presentation all set to go and when I begin to record 3 seconds into it my computer crashes. The second time I restarted and closed several programs I believed might be running in the background and contributing to the crashes, and when I started the recording again, it lasted 5 seconds and then the counter on the recorder started changing numbers really fast. Similar to when a digital clock goes haywire in a scary movie. I know that sounds strange but its the only way to describe what it does before it crashes.
There are no on screen error messages that appear and it reboots just fine. I have no other crashing issues with typical pedestrian use. Any help you could offer would be great; I'm leaning towards purchasing Articulate SL, but need to know how well it will perform during a real project.
Sorry for the trouble you've run into. If the steps in this article don't help resolve the intermittent crashing, would you please submit a case to our support team so we can take a closer look into what might be going on? Thanks!

Hi James,
Thanks for the information. I had our support team submit the web object issue to our dev team. I also submitted the memory issue to them for review.
Thanks again.
Hi Brittany,
It looks like you have a bad installation. Please try the following:
1. Uninstall Storyline
2. Restart your computer
3. Install Storyline
4. Restart your computer
5. Try to replicate the issue
Let me know if that resolves your issue.
Hi Brian,
I will re-install & follow up with the resolution.
Thanks!
Brittany
Good Morning Brian,
I also wanted to check-in with you; I am experiencing similar issues with a Storyline Trial Version. Welcome to Heroes, Jasmine
Sorry for the trouble you've run into. If the steps in this article don't help resolve the intermittent crashing, would you please submit a case to our support team so we can take a closer look into what might be going on? Thanks!
Good Afternoon Pete,
Thank you for responding, I was able to follow the instructions in the article exactly; step by step but no luck. Seconds into pressing the record mic button the blue screen of death popped up. I submitted a case as you stated in your early post and hope to hear something back soon.
Kind regards,
Jasmine
Thanks, Jasmine. We got it, and someone will be contacting you shortly.
Peter,
For what it's worth, I'm running Storyline on Windows7 via Parallels on a mac and it runs flawlessly. I've not run into any of the issues mentioned in this thread, I can't even reproduce the problems. I think this might be significant because all drives are mapped network drives in Parallels.
Hope this helps.
Have tried to believe this is user error, but getting this more and more when Previewing...
Sadness :(
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
This sounds very similar to my issue - which is still been worked on so I can't help much. Can I ask are all your screen captures done with Storyline, have you trimmed your screen captures much with Articulate Video Encoder and on the scene that is crashing, do you have many screen captures joined together?

Hope this helps a bit
Hi James,
No pattern to mine in terms of content - just stops working when I Preview every now and again.

Hi Brian,

I have been working for about a week building menus etc, with no issues, only once I've started inserting the recordings into the project.
Assistance will be most appreciated.
