Anyone get constant Articulate Storyline Crashing?

Jun 05, 2012

Been working hardcore in Storyline for a week now - all in all it's pretty cool, except the fact that it crashes often when i am pressing the space bar to preview my slides without actually clicking the preview button....if that makes any sense, haha.

It's happened 6 times today.

Maybe we're not really supposed to use that timeline feature? or maybe my project is kinda heavy asset wise

My Storyline has been crashing too. Sometimes it just shuts down, sometimes it tells me it is going to crash and right now it actually is asking me what I was doing. Nothing consistent. Sometimes when I'm saving, sometimes when I go to a different scene, right now I was trying to cut the slide that I just submitted for a bug report so I could save it in case anyone wants to look at it later. Each time I have lost all of my work. It might be that my file is too big and I have limited resources on my computer but I just thought I would chime in.

Hi guys

I had Storyline from the start and it was fine, except for two times when it just crashed constantly. One was my new Lenovo laptop, and I found that removing Corel DVD fixed it.  Second was when Skype did it's most recent upgrade. I uninstalled Skype (and every other Corel software I could find) and everything has been working perfectly.  I hope this helps someone.

Hi,

I am having a similar problem... Preview works fine, but whenever I switch from using Storyline to browse the internet I get a crash message. This happens about 5 times daily. (or more if I switch to the internet more often)

I would love if there was an easy fix for this because it is rather obnoxious.

Thanks!

Hi Sara, and welcome!

That's definitely unusual behavior, and I apologize that it's happening. Have you tried the steps here yet? Also, please know that we're always happy to have you open a ticket so we can take a closer look at what might be going on with the issue.

SL is crashing consistently for me as well.  I'm recording screen simulations that are being used in the "test" format.  Everything I go into edit my "try again" screen to add some custom feedback a dialog box say "...stopped working" and I lose everything.  I'm saving after every change I make...very frustrated and disappointed in what I'm seeing.

Yep, I've been having some crashing too.  I have a couple of very large projects - one is 187,900 KB and the other is 537,380 KB ... and these are before I insert some video clips at the end of short topics.  It seems I can go along fine and then it will become more sensitive.  The most crashing seems to happen when I click the preview on the timeline or to preview the slide.  Rebooting helps.  Frustrating.

Hi Helen,

I get this crash issue all the time. There are other threads on this too but in summary preview can get unstable when your project gets larger (900mbs and up makes it really unstable).

The best way I have found to get around this is to publish my work often. This seems to reorder the storyline file and makes it less prone to crashing when you do preview.

This is one of the forums on it: http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/20663.aspx

Anyone get constant Articulate Storyline Crashing?

I have Storyline crash when ever a file import/open (video, images etc.) is displayed.

I found the problem to be with my Seagate Replica USB external backup drive and it's Replica software.

Do not buy anything from Seagate. The software adds a 'My Replica' to the My Computer section of the open or save dialogue and crashes Storyline. Million of posts from other to Seagate which ignores the problem.

It crashes 3-4x everytime I use it.  New, old, inbetween, titles doesn't matter.  I will just often click the story view tab and it crashes, sometimes I change button properties and it crashes.  It's been very unstable lately.  I've sent in several reports.  Also the bigger the title the more unstable.  Its very frustrating.

Hi Peter,

I have been working on my first totally new project using the update 2 and it seems like it is becoming a little un-glued.

The project is only up to  I have just had 36,720kb and I have had 3 'Storyline is not responding crashes' in tha last 2 hours, I had two late yesterday. Each time it has been associated with previewing screen recordings (taken with Storyline) and screen shots (taken with snag-it because Storyline won't take the screen shot on active windows).

I have also been getting some 'can't save' errors, which are worded differently to the old ones. I will take a screen shot next it appears.

And on the first preview after that save it did this. Sadly even the Error Report crashed.

To be clear this is occuring on any slide I preview not just the one. I have to present this as a preview for sign off tomorrow so this sucks.

Hi James,

Your crashes sound like they may be related to a corrupt installation of Flash Player.  Try this:

1.  In Internet Explorer, uninstall Flash Player via the steps in this article:

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

(make sure that you're using Internet Explorer for all of these steps)

2.  Restart your computer after uninstalling

3.  Re-launch Internet Explorer & reinstall Flash Player:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

4.  Restart your computer

5.  Re-launch and preview in Storyline

If you continue to have issues, try all of the steps recommended in this article:
