Arabic - Storyline 3 - Firefox & Edge

Dec 19, 2018

Hi,

I have been working with a translation partner on some courses to translate from English to Arabic. They advised me that some characters were not appearing correctly in Firefox and Edge, and after raising the issue on the Articulate forums they were advised the following (around 2nd Nov 18):

"I understand that your HTML5 Arabic course is not rendering correctly when viewed using Firefox and Edge.

"While it is true that you should be able to create a course using any language using Storyline, we must admit that we have identified an issue regarding the use of harakat (diacritics) in our courses where it will not render properly on certain browsers.

We are working closely with our software developers in order to make sure that we can address this issue and I must apologize if this is causing some discussion between you and your clients."

My end client has become increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress on the issue and is now pressuring me for a date by which it will be fixed. Please can you come back to me with further details on the work which is taking place to fix the problem, an anticipated date that the fix will be rolled out, and also what (if any) rework to project files may be necessary to implement the fix.

Many thanks,

Karen

Hi Karen,

I can't find the forum discussion you mentioned, but I did find another similar case where our team was working someone named Ben. Is that your client? If so, my colleague Chino sent some additional questions to him on Nov 1 and was waiting for an update with answers and screenshots to help us track down the issue. If you're working with Ben, let me know and I can have to email resent so that we can keep moving towards a solution.

If that's not your client, could you point me towards this ELH discussion so I can track it down or if you'd like to share an example of this issue with our Support Team they're ready to help!

Hi, we have the same issue right now.

In Chrome the harakat (diacritics) are correct, but in Firefox and IE we have issues with them.

I can see that a year has passed since this issue was first noted here. So there is no actual fix for this issue in Storyline?

Please advise, thank you!

Hi Ren,
We have sent two more emails with test cases, followed the advice from Gerald, but the issue is still present.

Random diacritics appear randomly broken from their initial place and overlay the text, differently in Chrome, Firefox and IE.

I will update this thread when we find a fix for this, maybe it will help other companies and designers who use Storyline as their authoring tool to solve their issues also.

Thank you!
