Are there any known issues with Slide Layers for HTML5 output?

Jun 12, 2013

I'm designing a fairly complex project and the final product has to work for HTML5, both traditional PC & iPads. I wanted to make use of slide layers quite a bit but I'm concerned there may be issues getting them to show/hide properly and have corresponding audio play/stop/pause. Are there any design strategies I should use to circumvent any possible known issues with slide layers & HTML5 output? For example, should I be using new slide copies of my main slide instead of slide layers? Please advise.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jason,

We don't really have a collection of known issues available for the community, but in my experience it's best to "test, test, test!". This is really important for HTML5 content, simply because it can behave a little differently than other output types, especially with different devices and browser settings, etc.

I would think you would be fine using layers, the real issue is going to be the content on the layers.

You might want to keep this chart in your back pocket for reference while working on this type of project:

Comparing Storyline's Flash, HTML5 and Articulate Mobile Player output

You may also want to make sure that you're publishing with the most recent version of Storyline, with Update 3:

Articulate - Storyline Update 3

If you do run into an issue, please let us know. We're working hard to improve HTML5 output performance.

Thanks Jason!

Hi Samah!

This thread is a bit dated and I'm not sure if Jason is still subscribed. You are welcome to try to contact the user via the 'Contact Me' option on the user profile if you wish.

If you would like to share what difficulty you are having so that we can try to assist, that would be helpful. Be sure to share your current Storyline version as well :)
