Arial font appearing funny when previewing and publishing

Jul 24, 2014

Is anyone having any issues with their fonts appearing blurry or hard to read? We are using Arial which is a web friendly font but for some reason it seems like the font is being rasterized when we view the course. Any suggestions or helpful tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Alison,

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

If this is happening when previewing I would recommend checking your system's DPI settings:

Articulate Support - Articulate Storyline DPI Support

Also, you may want to make sure that you're viewing your published project in the environment for which it's intended. If you view a published Storyline presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Publishing and Sharing Articulate Storyline Content

  • I suggest using SCORM Cloud for your course - it's a great place to test SCORM content.
  • Another option would be to use our Tempshare server. Just keep in mind that this server is only available for testing content - it is not officially supported by Articulate and all content will be removed automatically after 10 days.
  • You're always welcome to try out Articulate Online, as well - it's available for a free 30 day trial.

Please let us know how it goes!

Thanks for your response. I have checked out the DPI settings as you recommended and they are fine. I have uploaded a screenshot from our LMS so you can see what I am talking about. Could it possibly just be the size of the font? If only there was an ability to change the kerning of the text that might just be the solution we need. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Alison,

I'm afraid I'm not seeing what you're referring to in the screenshot you provided.

I'd recommend checking your current version of Storyline, if you haven't already. We just released Update 6 and this may help with the quality of text that's rendered:

Click here toview the list of changes made in the new update.

Please try installing the update. After doing so, test in preview and publish and see if the quality has improved.

If it doesn't appear to have resolved the problem, please consider sharing your .story file here, so we can take a look.

Thanks!
