Ariculate Storyline 2 Update 5-No audio in many smartphones devices

Sep 11, 2015

Hi,

I'm using articulate storyline 2 and i have many issues when running the course in smartphones and ipads..I have added a track across the course as background (through coding the story_html5.html file). The track is playing in PC in all browsers but there is no sound in mobile devices..

Also, in many mobile devices the responsive layout is not so responsive e.g buttons of NEXT/PREVIOUS and VOLUME do not work, only half "canvas" of the player is displayed...

Please, could you help me?

Hi Chrysa,

We can't assist with the changes you made to the published files output and coding - so you may want to share additional information about it here with the community so that they could take a look.

In regards to the buttons and such, are you viewing the output in one of the supported browsers detailed here?

In regards to the VOLUME button, yes i use Chrome latest version but the VOLUME button doesn't work..

I send you my project for cheching. The background music is  <audio src="track.mp3" preload="auto" autoplay loop></audio> which i added in html5 file before </body>, but in mobile devices i do not hear it unfortunetely...

Please, take a look, i would appreciate it if you could help me

Hi Chrysa,

As I mentioned, I won't be able to assist with any modifications you made to the published output but if you'd like me to take a look at the issues you experienced with the volume button not working - I'd want to see the original .story file so that I could test publish it myself. Also you mentioned ipads, smartphones not working - but that it did work on the PC, I'd want to make sure that on the ipad you were viewing it in Safari and only using Chrome on a PC or Android device to view the HTML5 content.

Thanks you! I send you the .story file, you have already the "published" material (new2.zip) of the .story in our previous discussion.

Let's focus on the volume control firstly.

On the PC, course works fine in Firefox, IE, Safari (background music OK, prev/next buttons OK) BUT in Chrome(latest version)+Opera the volume control does't work.

On mobile devices , i have NO sound  and NO RESPONSIVE layout in default browsers (viewing always  HTML5 content).

With the Articulate Player application on mobile devices evertything looks fine...

I really would appreciate it if you could check the course and inform me mainly about the VOLUME control problem.

Hi Chrysa,

Thanks again for sharing the file - I took a look, and published it to Tempshare here.  I tested that version in Chrome and was able to navigate using the player buttons and hear the audio, but it only existed on slide 1.4. I also then tested it by viewing the HTML5 output directly in Chrome and it worked fine there as well.  These ones also worked fine on my iPad mini using the iOS 8.4 set up and all worked normally there in HTML5 as well. Can you test my version and let me know how it behaves for you?

Chrysa Souliou

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for the quick response!

I opened the course through the links you sent me and the volume controller in story_html5.html does NOT work in my Chrome (latest version), meaning that when I mute the volume , the bar is “frozen” to mute, and I cannot turn up the volume again…In story.html the volume controller in my Chrome works fine!

But I need a single background music across the course. Please add to my .story in HTML5 and HTML file the following code before </body> and check if we have background music and if the volume controller works in CHROME through HTML5 and HTML file..

<audio id='control-volume' preload="auto" autoplay loop autobuffer>

    <source src="track.mp3" />

    <source src="track.ogg" />

    <source src="track.wav" />

  </audio>

If you think that the above code is not right, please fix it so as the course to run fine in Chrome with one background music across the course.

I send you the tracks (the same track in 3 audio file types, according to the browser), put them in the same folder with the HTML5 and HTML files are.

The tracks are here https://www.dropbox.com/s/t1b5d1lidnamhij/articulate_background_track.zip?dl=0

I really appreciate your help and I hope we will solve these volume issues..I ‘ m looking forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Hi Chrysa,

So I did a bit more digging and playing with the volume slider, and think yesterday I had tested the Flash twice (whoops!). I see the behavior you're referring to now in regards to it not being able to adjust the volume from that icon. This has been reported to our QA team for review, and it seems that one workaround which has been successful for users is to ensure the player is set to "lock at optimal size", also not maximizing the browser window itself seems to help with this behavior. I'll include this thread in the report filed with our team so that I can share any updates here once they're available, but in the meantime please look at utilizing that workaround.

Also, in regards to your background audio and code - that's not something I can offer support for so I'll have to defer to the community.

Chrysa Souliou

Yes Ashley! I tried "Lock at optimal size" but i need the browser window to be maximized and minimized so this trick does not work for me...

Meanwhile, i'll keep trying and if i find something i'll inform the discussion. But please, share any updates about this issue beacause i have a deadline and Articulate Storyline is the only one that meets my expectations.

I do not have time to find any other software to complete my project beacause of the volume(!!!!!)..Thanks again!
