Arranging slides vertically in Story View

Oct 02, 2014

I'm working on a course that someone else has built, and they've put the slides in horizontally in Story View, which given the amount of slides in the course is a bit of a pain.

It is possible to rearrange the slides so that they're in the same order, but vertically arranged instead so that I can see more at a glance, and when I'm working on a single slide in normal view the scene toolbar on the left hand side displays them vertically too?

Thanks

Hi Kiri and welcome to Heroes,

The slides will arrange themselves in story view based on when you start adding the triggers for navigation. You can drag slides below each other and when the blue arrow appears let go and this will change the slides location and how the "next slide" trigger would behave.

This tutorial also deals with how to work in story view.

Hi Ashley,

I am working on a template where the slides are arranged in horizontal manner. In one of my screens, the content was in volumes so I had to split into three screens.  As usual, I added a trigger "Jump to slide: next slide", due to which the subsequent slide got arranged below the slide, instead besides it. i.e the arrangement fashion changed from horizontal to vertical.

I tried to drag the slide and place it horizontally but could not succeed. Instead, the slides got interchanged (one placed vertically below the first slide got changed with the on placed beside the first slide).

My queries are:

1) How do I change the default placement of the slides (vertical to horizontal)

2) If I need to split my content into several screen, how do I connect the slides, i.e. how do I help the learner navigate in a linear fashion?

Please help. Looking forward to hear from you.

WHAT YOU SEE IN STORYVIEW IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO PROGRAM FLOW. It is merely a visual representation of how the triggers are set up. The only way you can change how the slides appear in Story View is to change the triggers that control how the learner navigates. If you set the triggers so the learner will navigate in a linear fashion (which in my opinion ignores what we know about how people learn best), Story View will show the slides vertically. If you want them to be horizontal, you need to remove the triggers that connect them. Either way, IT IS THE NAVIGATIONAL FLOW THAT CONTROLS HOW THEY APPEAR IN STORY VIEW. How they appear in Story View doesn't control anything. If you have 3 monitors, it may be easier for you to see all the slides at one time if they are horizontal, but you spend most or your time working on one slide at a time, so the inconvenience of having to spend a little time scrolling up and down to find it is part of us working hard so the user doesn't have to.

Remember: the only to change the position of slides in Story View is to change the order the user views them, and that is by changing the triggers.
