Articulate 2 courses have issues in Chrome

Sep 19, 2017

Hello, all.

Lately, we had several problems with our Articulate 2 courses and Chrome.

On some computers courses viewed in Chrome  will have few issues and bags: the quality of the "picture" will be really low, fonts will be blurry, layers and triggers won't work properly - sometimes layer would pop-up in the place it's not supposed to, the object won't change its state etc. Using Internet Explorer on the same computer would help (but obviously most of the users don't use IE as their default browser).

I saw few threads about Chrome and HTML5 problems, but they were all back in 2015 and it was a problem with Chrome 44 version. We've got problems with one of the latest versions of Chrome (I for ex. have Chrome v.60) and still have got the same problems. Does anyone experience the same and/or has some advice? Thanks a lot in advance!

Hey Marina!

I'm sorry you're running into all these hiccups in Chrome. I'm happy to look into this with you!

I have a few questions to start with here:

  1. Where are the courses uploaded to when your learners are accessing it? (IE: website, learning management system, Articulate Online)
  2. Are you running the latest update for Storyline 2, update 12? If not, you can download it right over here.
  3. Can you share the unpublished .story file for one of the courses you're seeing these issues in? You can add it as an attachment right to a comment here, and let me know which slides are causing problems.

Keep me posted!

Hi,

We seem to be having the same/ similar issue.
Initially when our courses were uploaded they were functioning in most browsers only recently (noticeable in Chrome version 60 & 61) these courses either crash while opening, or freeze for example during a quiz.

Our current situation involves when you get an answer wrong and get to try again, you can change your answer but unable to proceed forward. Although, when testing this in Firefox there is no problem at all.

When I cleared my cookies and cache it worked once then locked up again. We are currently running the most recent version of Storyline 2.

We are unsure of how to progress through this issue.
Happy to try any possible solutions,
Thanks :)

Hey Paul!

Sorry you're running into those issues in Chrome- I'd love to help here and I have a few more questions for you to start with:

  1. Where are you testing the published output when you're running into these issues in Chrome? Is it uploaded to your LMS?
  2. Can you share an unpublished .story file where you're seeing this happen so I can do some testing with it? You can feel free to add it as an attachment right to a comment here!

Thanks for letting us know about this! Keep me posted.

Hey Phil,

I took a look and I do not see where either of the users above reached out for further assistance, so I have no update to provide.

I responded to a similar question of yours here regarding the sliders, but I've not seen an issue with the completion.

I do have Chrome 61, so let me know if you need us to take a closer look at anything going on.

We are having problems in Chrome as well. Users are viewing our courses in a LMS. While all the courses have been exported the same way, only some of the courses have issues. Users can view and read our text pages, but when they go to quiz area they get a blank screen. This doesn't happen in all our courses and for some users we can solve this by viewing the courses as a pop up instead of a new tab.

In Safari we have the same problem with the same courses. The only difference is that viewing it in a pop up doesn't help in Safari.

We use the latest version of Storyline 2.

Could anyone help us with this problem?

Hi there Maaike,

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes! Thanks for popping in here with those details.

Sorry you're running into this behavior! Have you tried testing your courses out in SCORM Cloud to see if the same thing happens there? That'll give us a better idea of whether it's LMS related or file related.

If you'd like to share one of the .story files you're seeing this in here, I'm also happy to help with testing. You can add it to a comment as an attachment.

I have an issue with Chrome as well.  I have 4 pictures that a user clicks on to go to 4 different layers.  The first 3 triggers take the user to the correct layer.  The 4th trigger takes the user back to layer 3.  This has happened in 2 different documents.  Very frustrating.  The triggers work fine in IE and Firefox.  The problem appears when I test in Scorm software and the LMS (PeopleSoft).  Would appreciate any advice or workaround.

Hi Nancy,

Sorry you've run into this issue - you mentioned testing in SCORM software, do you mean SCORM Cloud like Ali shared earlier as an option? If so, and you're running into the same issue there we'd love to take a look at your .story file and know more about what version of Storyline you're using?

If the file behaved normally in SCORM Cloud while in Chrome and the other browsers, I'd suggest sharing those results with your LMS team for further help!

I know this is an old posting, but a new problem for me as a Storyline 2 user.  We have a SCORM-published course with an auto opening sequence of audio and image triggers that work inside Infor LMS for IE (v11), but not Chrome (v73).  When testing in SCORM Cloud, we get the same result; works in IE but not in Chrome.  I even tried to change the manifest file inside the SCORM package to reference story.html instead of index_lms.html just as a troubleshooting attempt, without success.  Outside of the LMS as an AICC file it works fine for IE and Chrome, so I'm inclined to think it's a SCORM output issue, not related to the LMS, but instead the interaction between the SCORM output and Chrome.  Glad to upload files for you to review, but must send them privately.  Appreciate any thoughts you have.

Hi Will,

Are you seeing the course playback in Chrome without the audio? The issues with how media autoplays in Chrome and other browsers such as Safari also impacted Storyline 2. So I'd look first at downloading and installing the latest Storyline 2 Update and using the Articulate Updater to update previously published content.

If you're still running into trouble you can always share files privately with our Support Team

Good morning, Benjamin!

I haven't come across this particular experience yet, but I'm happy to investigate with you.

Would you mind sharing your course for testing? It'll help us get a clear picture of the issue, and we'll delete it after reviewing it in Chrome/Review 360. Simply use this case link to share it privately with us.

We'll get you the most up-to-date guidance from there!
