articulate complete course + score

Feb 13, 2020

Hello,

I have a confirm button which triggers a completion trigger.
In addition I have a test.
The completion trigger button appears only once the learner passed the course. The LMS accepts the completion but not the test score.
Is it possible using Java script maybe to send the score test to the LMS?
Thanks!

Hi, I'm having a problem with a Storyline Quiz where the publish settings have been set to Passed/Incomplete and SCORM 1.2

The module when uploaded to the LMS is reporting complete correctly, but not reporting the score - although the score is displayed on the results slide.

I thought this was a problem with the LMS (SAP/LITMOS) but on uploading the module to SCORM cloud it showed COMPLETE but with no score.

I have tracking set to the last slide in the set, this occurs two slides after the results slide. When I set tracking to the quiz results slide it shows the module as incomplete and the learner can't move forward on the learning platform.

What I'm looking for is whether the student has been through all the slides and achieved a set pass mark on the module.

All ideas welcome.

Stan

Hi Lauren,

I've attached a file so that you can see what SCORM CLOUD reports when we've set the reporting in a quiz to PASSED/INCOMPLETE.

When we track by result slide we get the % Score from the test but a report of Incomplete and Success unknown even though the results slide is the last slide in the quiz.

When we track by slides seen we get Passed and Complete but no score.

Our learners, their management team and our learning platforms need to record the passing score of a delegate and the fact that they have completed the course.

Our Storyline generated training quiz is a timed quiz with a set passmark and is confirmation that the delegate has understood and responded correctly to a case study scenario that they have accessed via a Rise course module preceding the quiz.

The learning unit and quiz is a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirement for our colleague professional candidates and that is why both these values (Passmark and Completion status) are needed.

I can share the quiz with you if it would be helpful.

Regards, Stan.

Stan, it does not matter where the results slide is in your course, as long as it is after all the questions.

Can I see your triggers for that results slide? There should be a submit results when timeline starts trigger that should submit the success. If you want to share the story file with us, or at least the quiz portion, I am sure one of us can take a double check to make sure.

It really depends on the type of reporting you use with the results slide.

See here https://articulate.com/support/article/how-to-report-completion-status-and-success-status-to-an-lms

Direct quote form the document:

We recommend choosing Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed. These options are most likely to record both completion and success statuses in your LMS. (You might see an Unknown success status in your LMS until learners complete the course, then the status usually changes to Passed/Failed.)

Each LMS, however, can interpret statuses differently (especially for SCORM 1.2 courses). Be sure to test your course in your LMS before distributing it to learners to make sure you get the statuses you expect.

Passed/Failed is normally terminal so the user cannot reattempt after a fail.

Our Results slide is a Storyline Template results slide that we downloaded from Articulate. It is set to PASSED/INCOMPLETE.

And as I said in an earlier note, this is what happens:

When we track by result slide we get the % Score from the test but a report of Incomplete and Success unknown even though the results slide is the last slide in the quiz.

When we track by slides seen we get Passed and Complete but no score.

We're getting these results from SCORM Cloud, as you can see from the graphic in the earlier note, not our LMS (although our LMS is saying the same thing.

What we need is the SCORE as well as Complete/Incomplete, surely there is a way to do this?

I'm happy to share the Story File.

Hi Stan,

I'm sorry to hear you're running into so many roadblocks attempting to get a completion status and quiz score! It's definitely possible, as I just did a quick test on my own Storyline template file and was able to get both statuses.

Let's get you some help! I've opened a case on your behalf with our support engineers to do some testing on your file. Feel free to upload it using your personal link here. They'll do some testing and see what could be causing the file not to report a completion!

Hi Ren,

We've resolved this issue with the help of Ji Yun Bang support engineer. Now I know what went wrong as I was able to do an A:B comparison of a result slide sent to us with our original.

This is what I found:

We need to set the reporting status to passed/incomplete and make sure that the results slide includes a trigger - 'submit results from result slide when the timeline starts on this slide'. t

This trigger was missing from our template.

So, overall for reporting, we set the value to passed/incomplete and the tracking to track on results slide.

Now it all works as we want, including showing a fail mark as an 'incomplete' course.

We also spent a bit of time playing around with Storyline reporting and found an unusual circumstance.

If we imported a result slide into a story that already had a result slide then the built in variable Results.Score.Points disappeared when we deleted the redundant results slide. But, when we deleted a pre-existing results slide and imported a results slide everything was fine.

On one occasion when we did this we got a mystery dialog box appeared that talked about duplicate parameters. This only happened once and we couldn't replicate the circumstances.

On another occasion when we imported a result slide into a story that already had a result slide then the built in variable Results.Score.Points renamed itself Results1.Score.Points and this now appeared in the list of built-in variables. No matter what we did this variable couldn't be removed even though we could rename it. See the attached file.

Thanks for everyone's help.
