Do you HAVE to have the Articulate Mobile Player for Storyline courses on the iPad?  I have to find a way around that.  I have about 200 locations with iPads that are not able to download anything.  We have them locked up tight.  How can my learners view the course I spent weeks on specifically for them with their iPads and Safari?

Hey guys, I've got an issue with clients using iPads to view content.

Here's the issue:

A student using his iPad he was breezing though the course within our LMS until he came to module 5-D (about 83% thought the course).

After completing 5-C he clicked "next module" which brought him to 5-D, BUT instead of loading 5-D as usual it told him he needed to download the Articulate Mobil Player, and then automatically redirected him to the app store where he could download the app and launch it.

After downloading the app he could not view 5-D. We have our modules locked so you must progress though them in sequence. This halted his progress since he could not view 5-D and could not skip past it.

He called me (since I inadvertently put my private cell phone number in my email tag) and I republished the module without selecting the "mobile articulate and android player" function.

We publish using SCORM 1.2

My concern is that we will see a lot more of these complaints in the future because I'm suspecting it's another update to Storyline 2's code that causes this. We did not have issues with this in Storyline 1.

What could be causing this?

Thanks for your help!

Mike hid the URL within his text. If you click the little chain link button it will allow you to add a link and then you can edit the text for the link.

Say you wanted to share a link of cat fails. You could say, "Click this link to view funny cats:" (and then post the link using cut and paste: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QScxSMWOT-c

Or you could click the chain link above ^^ and change the text to "Cat Fails" and then it will appear like this: Cat Fails

Sure thing. Here is a similar file (I've already worked around 5-D) and some of the feedback we have been getting:
"From D'ann Altom: Georgia Adjuster PreLicensingMedia player This app gives an error msg. No content. On my iPad air. Any suggestions?"
"From Mark Campbell: Indiana Adjuster Prelicensing

articulate player you give me no option but to down load a player to continue the course in wich i paid is very frustrating in and of itself. no option around it. then the damn thing doesnt work. now i have alotted this time to study for this course and
i have no way to access and proceed. :/ "
I'm attaching 1-A Georgia Preface, which is having the same issue as 5-D in our course. For now we are having to Re-publish everything using only HTML 5, where as before, in storyline 1, we published using the mobile player app for iPad, but without allowing the user to download for offline viewing.
Please let me know what you find because the frustration of our customers could cost our company money--not to mention that I am having to re-do everything regarding publishing which results in tangible dollars lost.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ben.

Hello Benjamin,

If you attached the file via email, it will not post here. you can add it directly in the post. However, you stated you need to re publish and remove the option for the app. This would be the issue. If you have the publish for Mobile Player App checked, the course will take users on iPads to the site to download the App.

Here’s how Storyline determines which version of your content to display when learners view it:

  • Learners will see the Flash version of your course if their browser supports it.
  • If learners are using iPads or Android tablets and you selected the Articulate Mobile Player (AMP) option when you published, the course will launch in AMP. (If they don't have the app installed, they'll be prompted to install it.)
  • If learners are using iPads or Android tablets and you didn't select the AMP option when you published, but you did select HTML5, the HTML5 output will launch in their mobile browser.
  • If learners are using a browser without Flash and you marked the HTML5 option, they'll see the HTML5 output. (For a list of supported browsers, click here.)

This was the same with Storyline 1. You can remove the option to view on the mobile app in the publishing setting to prevent this from happening.

Hi Emily,

I wondered if responding to the email would't work with attaching files so I reuploaded them above. Thanks!

However, I'm not sure you are understanding my question. The problem is that even if the students do, in fact, download the app when prompted the module does not work. This was not an issue with Storyline 1.

With Storlyline 1 we would publish to HTML5 and also to the mobile app, but we would deselect "allow download for offline viewing" (See attached screen shot "HTML5 and Articulate Mobile Player"--you may need to download Jing to view it).

Everything worked fine until we upgraded to Storyline 2.

Once we started publishing (in the exact same manner as Storlyilne 1) with Storyline 2 our students started encountering this problem with the app.

After reading the link you provided it seems the problem is that we publish using SCORM 1.2 so I will publish only to HTML5 from now on.

I find it really frustrating that these changes are made without letting the customer know. This happened in Storyline 1 with the flash player 16 update and again when Storyline 2 came out and changed the restricted menu function.

I'm also kind of disappointed that all customer service seems to do is provide a work around for these issues rather than actually acknowledge or fix the problems.

Hello Benjamin,

I have not heard any issues using the allow downloading for offline in Storyline 2. This would only give the option for them to download for watching later. Even with this unchecked, they will still be directed to download the App if the Mobile app is checked in publishing.

The issue with publishing to SCORM is that if they view on the Mobile Player, it will not be tracked.

And I may have misunderstood your original request. I thought they were being redirected to download the app after 5C, instead of being directed to 5D, which should not happen within a course, they should be directed to download the App at the beginning of the course.

I will test your file in the SCORM Cloud and see what I can find out.
