Articulate file unreasonably large

Dear Heroes,
I am working on a course in storyline 3. However the file seems to be unreasonably large. The size of the file was 2.066.728 kB. As the program crashed frequently, I decided to delete many pictures and almost all the movies as well. The size reduced to 571.745 kB.
However, this only makes a small difference. So I have deleted some of the scenes as well, so I can work with the program again without having to wait for 4 minutes to preview the file. Now I am working on the different scenes in different files, which I can merge to 1 file in the end.
Ofcourse this is only a temporary solution, in the end I have to merge the files again.
I have compared the course I am working on at the moment, with a course made by a colleague a little while ago. This course seems to be much bigger: more slides, more scenes, also a lot of picutres, two movies and many masterslides.
Still, my file with only 3 scenes in it, has a much bigger size!
Am I missing the cause of this problem or is this problem familiar? And, is there something I can do to fix this?

Hi Arianna,
Have you checked for other things such as extra slide masters, screen recordings, etc. that could be causing extra bloat in your file? I'd also want to double check that you're working on local project files as described here. Working from a shared/network drive is known to cause some odd behavior and ultimately lead to corruption.
Also, make sure that when you delete those items you save and close the file to get an accurate file size. The items you've deleted are saved in there til that point in the even that you need to use the undo button.

I apologize for my late respons, but thank you for your help. The crashing problem has been solved.
However, the size of the file is still enorm! And I just can not figure out why.... I have decreased the size of the pictures which I'm using and the movies in the course are not that big.
If I want to open, safe or publish the file it takes a really long time for the programm to process this, like 5 up to 10 minutes.
What could be the cause for the extremly big size of the course I have created?

I'm happy to hear that it's no longer crashing for you - so now let's figure out the size issue.
I've seen some users who had larger courses and typically removing items such as unused slide masters, screen recordings, and other media elements helps. All those pieces if included in your Storyline project are adding to the overall size even if you're not using them.
Also, once you delete them - do a "save as" to your local drive/desktop and close and reopen Storyline. If you delete assets we keep then in there until it's been fully closed out incase you want to use the "undo" button.
