The first step toward troubleshooting this problem is to determine whether or not the problem is project-specific.
If the problem only affects one specific .story project file, you may be experiencing some file corruption. In this case, I'd recommend importing your file into another project and testing for resolution of the problem. ...and for future reference, here is our best advice on preventing file corruption.
If the problem is more widespread and affects all projects you create in Storyline, I would recommend following the steps in this article to whip your Storyline installation back into shape.
