Articulate Storyline 2 course gets stuck on Safari Browser and other browsers on tablets

Apr 01, 2015

Hi eLearning Heroes,

We created a few courses using Articulate Storyline 2 and deployed them on our LRS environment published with tincan and HTML 5 output having upgraded the articulate version to the newest one available online Articulate Storyline 2 Update 4 - Build 1501.717.

Having had the courses run successfully on Chrome on laptops, we tried them on the Safari browser and other browsers on tablets. Unfortunately they seemed to get stuck on the submit button of the last page of the course and when the course was returned to from the same browser or another one we got the stuck version of the courses and displayed that last page with the question unanswered but with a review result if it was right or wrong.

We also tried this on the scormcloud with the same tincan version and got the same error as above.

Can you please guide us what can we do about this?

Thanks again!!

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your reply.

We are facing this with all files I have created here as well.

What we did was take a course created in SL1 earlier. After getting the new SL2 version this file wouldn't open in the old and automatically open the new version we had.

We then used it as a base to go ahead and created small test courses few months back and  as an example already shared with you in my last reply.

We also again updated are SL2 to the the update 4 version and then again had these courses published, thinking it could have been because of that. But we continue to face the same issue for all the courses now created.

Here is another example of a courses.

Thanks again!!

Hi Anjali,

I was looking at your files a bit more closely in comparison to some of my own, and I see you're not providing any feedback to the user? Within my file, I can't get it to stick if I had feedback - but yours sticks as you mentioned without the feedback so I'm thinking that may be the difference. Also, are you only seeing this in the Safari version and not the mobile player?  I'm going to share this example with our QA team for additional review.

Also, I wanted to mention that if you have SL1 and SL2 installed on the same system, it will default to opening .story files in the latest version (SL2) although it should create an SL1Backup file that you could open in Storyline 1.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your reply. We have feedbacks given in the course when the user has successfully completed it, or once he has lost all his attempts. Prior to that there is no feedback.

Also when I published the course, I did not select the Articulate Mobile player option as I ws facing issues. I just selected the HTML5 output option.

I can re-send you the files published without AMP option if needed. I see this problem on the following devices below:

- On Safari Browser on Mac laptops

- On all browsers (Firefox, Chrome & Safari) on tablets.

- Also our QA faces this issue when she is automating her test case while testing this course.

Thanks again!!

Thanks Anjali - I republished the course with the mobile player option not selected, and as I mentioned saw the same behavior so I reported it to our QA team for additional review. It seems that as I mentioned if the user sees immediate slide feedback (the standard correct/incorrect layers - although you could customize them to look however you want). I'll keep you posted here if I have any additional information to share from our QA team.

Hi Marcia,

I'm sorry to hear you've run into this issue as well. I took a look at the report that we filed with our QA team and they're still investigating it - but it wasn't something they were able to reproduce on a brand new file - but only on Anjali's files. Do you have a sample file that you could share as a part of this thread and I can get that into the hands of our QA team for some additional testing? I am unable to offer a time frame in regards to when I'll hear back from them but will keep you posted here once there is additional information to share.

If you're unable to share or would like to utilize workaround in the meantime, I did previously find that Including feedback on the questions does not cause the "sticking" issue or since it only occurs in Safari, look at utilizing the mobile player or only Flash output.
