Articulate Storyline 2: Video Player Control Challenges
Dec 23, 2016
Hi All,
Something odd is happening with an embedded video I'm using in my course.
The video is a .mp4, approximately 2 minutes in length (30mb)
Here's what my video settings look like:
Here's my triggers; nothing unusual here, except that there is an invisible rectangle over the play button set to disappear when the intro audio blurb finishes, so that the user has to listen before watching the video.
Here's my timeline - I've moved the video as close to the top as possible; it has to have the rectangle over it, or else I can't control access to the video:
Now, here's where things get odd:
Here's what the player looks like when you preview the slide:
Everything works in the preview as it is supposed to.
Here's what it looks like when published to web and run as HTML5:
Notice that the player doesn't resemble the one in the preview, and the controls are totally non-functional. You can still play/stop the movie by clicking the viewing area itself, but the controls are non-functional.
Any ideas how I can fix this?

Hey Martin - How are you publishing/sharing the file? What browser are you viewing the content in? Would you be able to share the .story file so that we could take a look?
Hi Leslie,
Sorry, just got back from holidays. I'm publishing from a network drive to a network drive using AS2.
Here's my publishing settings
here's the quality settings:
I'm viewing the content in Chrome 55.0.2883.87 m, but this has also happened in Internet Explorer.
Unfortunately, I can't share the .story file. My manager won't give me clearance to, as the information is proprietary.

Hello there Martin!
We recommend that you save and publish to your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive can cause erratic behavior due to latency, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources. You may want to try saving the file to your local hard drive, re-publish to Web, and test the uploaded content again from your web server.
Since you're unable to share your file publicly in the forums, you also have the option to share your file privately with our Support Engineers via this form. They keep all files strictly confidential and will sign an NDA, if you like.
Hi Alyssa,
I'll try publishing locally, since this seems to be at the root of a lot of the challenges I experience with AS2.
Thanks, and happy new year!
-Martin
UPDATE:
It would seem that this time, the trouble wasn't local:
Still getting the same behavior and odd player output:
I'm sorry to hear that, Martin. I had my fingers crossed that saving locally would do the trick. If you do get permission to share the file with our Engineers, please let me know the case number here and I'll be sure to follow along with it as well! :)
Hi Alyssa,
Thanks for trying to help. Here's the case number: 00985045.
As it turns out, I'm more persuasive than I thought - they're okay with the idea of it being private, now.

Thanks for sharing your case number with me - I'll check in periodically as it progresses and share updates here!
Hi there Martin!
I was just checking in on your case, and I see that Victor is testing your file. You're in good hands there!
