Articulate Storyline 360 HTML courses not timing out

Jun 25, 2019

We are updating courses and using the new templates and they are very, very cool. When we publish to HTML 5 (our only option with the new templates), the course does not time out for inactivity. We have our LMS set at a 6 minute timeout to meet the course requirements (so the user gets disconnected if he/she does not advance or click something within 6 minutes). How can we get the user to timeout if they are inactive? My LMS provider says that the course is sending a call to the LMS every second and that's why its not timing out. How can we get the course to stop doing this or otherwise allow/enable the timeout to work?

Hi Scott,

What update of Storyline 360 are you using? There was a fix some time ago for an issue where "HTML5 output would send a message to an LMS every 60 seconds to keep idle courses from timing out, regardless of the actual frequency defined in the FORCED_COMMIT_TIME variable in the Configuration.js file for the published output." and that was in Update 16...we're now on Storyline 360, build 3.29.19305.0

Have you looked at enabling LMS debug mode to see what data is being sent back and forth?
