Articulate storyline files, video stops when played on UltiDev Webserver but works fine when streamed or locally played.

Jun 05, 2018

Hi Everyone

I have a client that I create E-learning content for and place it on their own LMS system. At the  moment we are experiencing issue when playing through the LMS system. The video stops while the rest of the content continues (tex boxes or any other elements on the timeline. If I re-render the file the video still hangs but the point in which it does sometimes changes. its always issue with the Video hanging. It is not an issue with Video size or export quality and it is not only happening in one project.

When the file is played locally it works perfect, when it steams online it works perfectly but when it runs through this LMS system it has issue. We have made them many modules in the past years that work fine, it's just since the beginning of this year that these issue are coming.

Some information about the LMS .

1. The LMS accepts Web Renders

2. The Webserver is  UlitDev: The way it works is that you upload content to the server then the learner logs in and the content downlaods to the learners local drive and then you play the content through the webserver but the content runs from the drive. This file system is done all by the LMS and has been working for 3. years so it is all functional. (I hope this makes sense)

I have spoken with the guys who created the LMS and they can pick up any issues when with the LMS while the content plays. when they view there bug analyser software which i assume shows you what the code is doing in real time, they do see the content lining up and sometimes it lines up quickly and sometimes it lines up slowly, its almost like its all over the place.

Does anyone have any idea  on what could be going on as i'm really lost and I have tried many different renders and re edits to try and solve it. I have logged a case with Articulate and the support team says it works fine for them but the slides that are lagging are a bit chunky so might be worth splitting it up, so i will try this but i feel like the issue is happening in very random places in other modules of work so i'm not sure if this is the reason why.

Hi Jamie,

I saw you worked with my colleague Anna on this issue. I'm curious how the courses played back for you when testing her versions hosted on Amazon S3 and on SCORM Cloud?

If those worked fine for you, that's more info to share with your LMS team to help track down any playback issues that could be causing the lag on their end. Also, it's worth taking a look at different browsers to see how that plays back. Since you're using Storyline 360 any of the browsers here will work.
