These are really completely different tools for different needs. I often see people trying to compare Captivate with Camtasia as well. Again, different types of tools.
Camtasia is essentially a video editor/producer. Articulate/Captivate are interaction builders. There is some overlap between the products but they are complimentary more than competitive.
If you're a Mac user (like me), ScreenFlow is my weapon of choice. There is a Mac version of Camtasia, but I've never been a big fan of TechSmith's UI design.
I'm not sure what else is out there on the Windows side. Camtasia is certainly the big dog in that space in the Windows world.
