Attempting to create text boxes that end users can fill in while in Try mode

Sep 12, 2016

Hello,

I am creating my first full Articulate course and I recorded the steps to a software process and uploaded in Try mode. My challenge is that I don't know how to setup my screen for those slides where I want the user to type in the correct text. For example, I have a page that says submit email and the email is for Tina Training or ttraining@learning.com.  When I create a regular text box and then preview, the text is way too big and when I type in the space, I'm not able to immediately go to the next screen. Instead, I get an incorrect answer message and a submit button instead of the system recognizing that I typed in the correct info and you can go to the next slide. I'm sure I'm just missing some product knowledge and would be glad of any help.

Hi Monica,

Thanks for reaching out here. Are you able to conduct the recording of how to submit an email? That should generate the text entry as a part of the screen recording process if you were to use a Try it or Test it set up.

If you've added in your own custom text entry boxes, you'd need to modify the triggers based on the text entry - and it may be a bit easier to assist on this if you're able to share what you've already got set up.

HI Monica,

So I stripped down your file to just isolate the try again scene, and only then worked on the third slide with the text entry. You're almost there! What I changed was removing all the "feedback" elements - you can do that from form view of the question and then I set the "submit" trigger up to submit it once the control loses focus. What that means if the user has to click outside the text entry box for it to continue. There isn't a way to determine that the user was just typing - so it's got to be the click outside that helps.
