: I need help with knowing how to play audio only when the icon is clicked on. I have a PPT with sounds attached with icons, but they all play at the same time when the slide comes up. I need help immediately as I am supposed to have this project loaded and complete by Monday 8/17/2020 9:00 am
Hi Tammy, I'm assuming that you've already imported your PPT into Storyline?
It sounds like your audio files imported into the timeline. Try cutting the audio files from the timeline, and then pasting them into separate layers. Then add a trigger to the icons that you want to start an audio file, that shows the layers with the associated audio file. In the layer, I would also add a trigger to hide the layer when the audio file finishes playing.
Dave: I have my layers created but I am really new to this articulate thing and I am not sure how to cut and paste my audio into the layers. When I click on the individual layers it doesn't give me the option to paste, it just gives me the properties box. Like I said, I'm very green to this. thank you in advance.
In the slide layer properties it shows hide other slide layers but it only gives me the option to close that dialog box. It does not give me the option to select ok. I'm aa a loss.
In your main timeline, select your audio layer, and press Ctrl-c on your keyboard. Then go to your new layer and press Ctrl-v on your keyboard. This should paste the audio layer into the timeline on your layer.
Another way you can get the audio onto you new layer is just import it into the layer. You should already have the audio in your project, to you can just import it from the medial library within Storyline. Select Audio from the ribbon > Media Library, and then select your audio file.
Ok…. so I did the ctrl-c/v and it seemed to be loading each audio file into the layers. Now, I need to create triggers. Is that correct? When I click on the layers, it still just brings up the layer properties box which only gives me the option to select close.
Triggers allow you to detect events in Storyline, and make things happen.
You indicated that you want the audio to play when your user clicks an icon. Select the icon that you want to activate the audio. The over in the panel at the right, above the layers panel, click on the add a trigger icon. A dialogue will open for you to add and configure a trigger. Becuase you started with the icon selected, some of the properties will already be set for you. Set the trigger to Show the layer that contains your audio click when the user clicks the selected icon.
Then go to the layer and add another trigger. In this trigger, set it to Close this layer when media stops playing.
Ok…. It’s just not working. I have signed up for a zoom account. Never used that before either. But I am willing to try anything. I have been working on this ONE slide for 2 days. I am NEVER doing one of these projects again just because of this 1 slide. Lolol…. If you have time and can let me know how to connect with you through Zoom, I am willing.
The Project you helped with yesterday went off without a hitch today. Thanks again for all your help. I was completely frustrated and overwhelmed. I sincerely appreciate your help in making this project successful.

Ok, I’ll try that. I did try to cut and paste into the layer but it wouldn’t let me. I’ll try the other way.
Thanks so much again!!

Am I on the right track?

By the way, are you available to call?
