Audio and multiple layers

Nov 22, 2013

I'm trying to be proactive and avoid some rework.  I'm building a slide that will have a total of 16 layers, including the base.  Each layer has a radio button that reveals the next as the user answers questions. There's only one way to answer so I don't have any branching issues.

My plan is to have the sound file for the base layer be heard for the base through layer 8.  On layer 9 there are different instructions so I'll have new audio for layer 9 (which may require a pause for the base layer) that will only be for that layer.  I'll also add another audio file for layer 10 that I want to be heard through layer 16.  I'd rather not have to put tiny bits of audio on each layer, as the narrative will instruct on how to answer a group of questions.  Is this possible?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Joyce,

I haven't seen this set up, and there isn't a way I know of to hide items from particular layers - so it sounds like you'll need to include the audio on each slide layer. The other option for setting this up would be to use variables that track what layer you're on and determine which audio file to play or not play based on that.

Thanks Ashley.  I think that perhaps the best way to deal with this is going to be to split it into 3 slides.  One for what would have been the first 8 layers, another slide that is "layer 9" and a third slide for the rest.  Not what I was hoping for, but I think it'll be easier than trying to break it up or figure out the variables.
