I am trying to find a spec sheet for audio and video files. I would like to provide this to client beforehand so we can save time up front. Better to know beforehand how nicely these media file types play in SL. I only found info for swf. file types.
Glad you got what you needed, and let us know if you need anything else!
Yes- I never had the opportunity to sync multiple audio files in SL.
I will be dealing with a lot of audio and was wondering what would be the best practices for this.
I tested out to see whether the audio carries over to layers and it doesn't. This means my timeline on the base layer will not only be long, but loaded with objects. Any recommendations?
What do you mean when you say the audio doesn't carry over to layers? If you have audio on the base layer, and you leave the "Pause timeline of base layer" box unchecked on the properties for the layers, the audio continues to play when the layers are revealed.

Perhaps that's not what you meant?
So How do I link a specific cue point to each layer from the audio on the base layer?
ah...since that wasn't in your first post, I wasn't speaking to that. That would definitely NOT be easy.
As an additional piece of information, I take long audio files and break them up into smaller pieces so they can be used on separate slides, or in your case, layers. Let me know if that's something that would work for you, and I'd be happy to share the link here to a tutorial I created on how to do that.

Exactly what I was thinking. Yes, the how to file will be helpful. Thanks??
Oh, I thought it will be a screencast for SL. Audacity is my other lover ??. That I have 100% under wraps. More interested in SL and whether specific triggers or weird maneuvers will be required to make the slide layers seamlessly transition with the animations? So far I don't see much of a headache apart from missing a setting or two on the layers. Anything else I should know from your lessons learned? Also, SL did crash a few times when adding the audio. Not sure whether it is because the mp3 was too big???
I guess I'm not understanding what you're asking, Kai, in terms of syncing. As far as layers/syncing/animations, a layer, as you know, is part of a slide, so there shouldn't be any issues. I can't say I've had any.
As far as crashing and mp3 size being a factor, I'll leave that to Articulate staff.
In regards to the crashing of Storyline, I'd first want to check that you were working with all local projects files, including your audio files as working on a network or USB drive could cause unusual behavior. Also, I'd suggest closing any other programs while working in Storyline as they could be drawing on the memory available to Storyline and causing it to be slow or unresponsive. If you continue to experience difficulty with multiple files, I'd conduct the repair of Storyline to resolve any lingering issues.

Hi Kai,
There is a tutorial here on how to sync animations with the cue points on your timeline and an additional tutorial on syncing animations here.

@Rebecca. I am taking your advice and will be using layers cutting up the audio into pieces
@Ashley - Thanks very helpful. I did a repair and hopefully it won't crash again as it has x2 already.
Thanks Kai - and please keep us posted if you continue to experience odd behavior after repairing Storyline.
Good luck, Kai!
