Audio Compression Problem

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me?
We are having audio quality compression problems. We have tested various inputs and outputs changing; file type (MP3 & WAV), file size and matching input bit rates to Articulate publishing bit rates to no avail.
The audio quality is reduced by quite a margin when we publish out at Articulate‘s highest quality which is 160/KBPS.
Is there a method of modifying the compression codec in the source files?
Or is there a way of stopping the automatic renaming of the sound files when published? If the codec cannot be modified we were thinking we could drop the original files in place of the compressed versions.
We would greatly appreciate your storyline wisdom.
