Audio cuts out when I click on an item during a screen record

May 21, 2013

I am doing a software demonstration, and recorded my screen with audio.  During playback, the audio cuts out every time I click on something on the screen.  How do I fix that?

Hi Teresa,

Having difficulty thinking of what might be causing this. Is this a single video recording? The step-by-step recordings won't record audio, so I'm assuming you added additional audio if it's this type of recording.

Can you let me know what type of recording this is, if the audio is separate from the video and what type of content you're interacting with during playback, please?

If you could share a .STORY file, that would be awesome :)

Thanks!

Sorry, the audio and video were recorded simultaneously.  Once I recorded my screen, I put the recording onto a slide in my project.  I've done this before and it has worked in the past.  At first I thought it was my headset connection to my computer, but the audio always cuts out right as I click something on the video.

Hi Teresa,

I see. I hope that goes well for you.

If you get time to revisit the issue, let me know. We can see what's going on and hopefully get it working properly so you're not running into this issue in the future.

Here's some things I would recommend trying (when you have the time):

First, make sure your project is local. I'm sure you've seen this before, but it never hurts to double-check :)

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Make sure you're not testing your course by viewing the published output files. If this is happening during preview, however, it would be an entirely different issue.

If you are testing the course after publishing, please make sure you're viewing it in the environment for which it's intended. More information here

You're also welcome to share a file where you see this happening (again, when you have the time). I'd be happy to take a look and see if I experience the same problem on my side.

Thanks and I hope the project goes well, Teresa!

Christine
