Audio file identification in the timeline in Storyline

Feb 13, 2014

I have run into a problem.  I have suddenly noticed  when I am looking at the timeline on a particular slide in Storyline, that audio files that I have inserted do not always display the file name when you hover over it with the mouse.  Sometimes I can hover and the name displays and other times it does not.  This has become an issue for me when I work on a course that I am updating from several months in the past.  Are there certain times when Storyline does not display the file name and other times when it does?  Is there something simple that I am missing here?

Hi Curtis,

I haven't heard of this happening before - but you could also rename the files within the Timeline itself by right clicking "Sound 1" and then selecting "rename sound 1".

Also, if this is happening in just one file, you'll want to make sure you're working with local project files, and you could try inserting it into a new Storyline project to see if that resolves any of the odd behavior.

Hello Megan,

Sorry to hear you've run into this. You'll want to first confirm you're working from your local hard drive. Is this happening when you upgrade Storyline 1 courses to Storyline 2? Also, was the audio recorded within Storyline, or was it an imported audio file? Just want to make sure I have all of the details so I can try to replicate the behavior on my end.

Hi Alyssa,
I have been troubleshooting and this occurs when I save it to my local drive and on a network drive. From what I remember this happens to both upgraded and new Storyline 2 courses but I know for sure that it happens with upgraded courses. The recording was imported as an MP3. Thank you for looking into this!

Great news!  We just released another update for Articulate 360, and included a few important fixes and new features that you'll see in the release notes here.

The item you'll be interested in is how we fixed the issue where Audio Filenames were no longer showing in the Timeline when the mouse is hovered over the Audio.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for each application. Details here.
