Audio files don't play in preview on some slides!

Oct 22, 2015

Hi

Been struggling with this since this morning, I am adding audio (.WAV) files to my course, all files are local, while some audio files work perfectly in preview I cannot hear a thing on some other slides. I have customized audio nav on this course- its something I inherited. Checked the layer triggers and nothing seems wrong. All audio files work great outside of Storyline or when I click the grey vol icon on stage for preview, but no audio in some slide previews!

Some one HELP!

Hi Leslie!

I figured out what the problem was, there were some other layers on the slide that had the 'Hide other slide layers' checked after unchecking that on those layers my VO worked - the VO is on a separate layer so that option was blocking the VO layer from playing the audio ! all good now! Thanks for your offer to help though!

Hi Dawn,

This discussion is quite a bit older, so I also suspect that's contributing to the difference in what you see, vs. what Priya saw so let's start from scratch!

Can you let me know the following info:

  • What version and update of Storyline are you using?  You can check by going to the "Help" Tab -> "About Articulate Storyline".
  • Are you experiencing the issue with audio not playing back while previewing, publishing, editing the course, or all of those places?
    • If it's only in Publish, how did you publish and where are you testing your courses (i.e. what browsers and devices)?
  • Is it only certain audio files or certain slides that don't play back the audio?
  • Can you share a copy of the .story file or even the handful of slides where you're not able to hear audio?

Once we have some additional information, we'll figure out next steps and point you in the right direction!

Hello,

I need help! I have no audio sound when I play back the slides to my project in Preview. When I emailed the file to my boss, he had no problem hearing them. I am using a Mac with Windows installed as a Parallel.

I've seen other posts about enabling flash drive for headphones. My issues is actually hearing it through the computer while using preview.

Suggestions?

Hi Learning Developer,

Sorry to hear you're coming across some audio issues! How did you and your boss view the course to listen to the audio?

  • Opened the .story file directly and previewed?
  • Published output files and opened locally?

Using a virtual machine should not cause any issues when previewing a course. If you find yourself still unable to hear your audio, connect with our support engineers, and they'll be able to lend you a hand in testing your file!
