Audio in Storyline 3 - corrupting

Mar 04, 2019

Hi there, I have an issue whereby my audio, recorded in Storyline 3, become corrupted and I have to re-record it. By 'corrupted' I mean that the voice sounds like a robot-type-voice. I saw another post about Choppy audio, but when accessing the link it opens a different topic.

Any idea what could be causing this issue? I've ended up disconnecting my laptop from any and all connections, but it still doesn't help.

Thanks

Oh no, Andri! Sorry for the audio trouble.

Let's iron out some key details so we can explore our next steps:

  • Are you working on a local hard drive (typically the C: drive)? Working on a network drive or an external USB drive can cause odd behavior similar to what you're experiencing, so I'd like to rule that out first.
  • Do you hear the choppy audio within Storyline, in the published output, or both?
  • With your permission, we'd love to take a close look at your .story file to see what's happening with the audio quality. You can share it publicly here, or share it privately with our Support team here. We'll delete it once we nail down the culprit!

Looking forward to helping!

Hi, Andri. Thank you for those details!

Yikes! I can hear the choppiness ..and that should not be happening. Since you're now working from your local hard drive, these repair steps for Storyline 3 should do the trick.

If that doesn't help, please let our Support team know here. They'll closely work with you to figure out what may be going on, and will do what they can to ensure this feature works correctly!

Andri,

Sorry - not trying to horn in on what Katie's doing, but I had to throw on my old IT hat when I saw your question.  These are questions that you may have already answered in your testing but just in case:

  • What happens to 3rd party audio dropped into Storyline - whether it be an .mp3 recorded on your system outside of Storyline, an .mp3 purchased song, or a .wav recorded in a pro studio?
  • Along those same lines, do you notice a difference between how various file types/bit depths/sample rates behave?
  • If you have the ability to, does anything change if you change your audio input device before you record?  For example an XLR mic through an interface vs. a USB mic vs. any other options you have.  Depending on how things behave when you change your input device, it might point to a driver issue.
  • Also, I was doing some digging and found this article:  https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-presenter/echo-in-published-audio  - it may not address what you're seeing, but it's certainly a possibility depending on how the original poster defined 'echo'.

I hope this helps some - feel free to let me know what the results are or if you have any additional questions and I'll do what I can to assist from an IT/audio guy perspective.

Have a great evening!

-Mike
