Audio on First Slide

Jan 28, 2019

I start my course with a slide, that has an audio (voice-over). After I published it in HTML and open it, it will start with a big play button, instead of the actual first slide. This only happens the first time the course is started.

Is there a way to get rid of this big play button? It should start directly with the first slide, doesn't matter if it's the first time opened or not.

For information: If I remove the audio from this slide, it starts as supposed to. So this is in fact in relation to the audio.

Hi Tom,

Are your learners viewing courses on Chrome? If so, Chrome changed some of their autoplay back of media in the latest updates (details here).

In Chrome 70+, learners may see a play button when they launch or resume a course with audio on the first slide. They just need to click the play button to start the course, and audio will play as expected.

After a while, learners may stop seeing the play button as Chrome's Media Engagement Index (MEI) learns that they allowed audio to play on previous visits to the same site. When that happens, audio will automatically play as it did in earlier versions of Chrome.

I just updated a really old e-learning course and this is now happening to me as well.
We use Chrome as our default browser as it works best for our LMS, so now that I uploaded I also see this Play button and I have audio on the first slide.

I read the link you provided Ashley, and I assume since I upgraded storyline 360 on Tuesday, when I open this old e-learning in storyline it auto updates.  One section of the linked article gave me the impression that articulate did something to fix this ..."mass update tool"  but I am using the latest storyline.

Can you clarify?  I tried it in Firefox and it works fine.

Thanks

Teresa

Hi Teresa,

Happy to help clarify here!

The distinction here is that if a course is published using the latest version of Storyline 360, that course will have the latest updates and features applied to it.

For a course that was published using an older version of Storyline that may need updating, the Articulate Updater will update that published course. This tool will update published courses, so they work on new operating systems and web browsers without having to republish that course.
