I have tried several times to record audio while performing a screen capture of a website and each time when I preview the slide the audio sounds as if it is on fast forward.
Is there a setting I missed that will make the audio sound normal? I'm not sure if it matters, but I am working with a trial version of Articulate Storyline.
Good afternoon, Keri. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
It sounds like you're trying to make a screen recording. Is that right? Is it just the audio that's too fast, or the video recording as well?
The first thing I would check is the location of your project file. Is the project file itself located on your hard drive? Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate). Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.
Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.
Are you able to insert an audio file into the course, for testing? If so, does that audio play correctly?
Also, what type of screen recording are you creating? Is it a View Mode, Test Mode, Try Mode, etc.?
if you haven't already, try moving the file to your local hard drive. Running it from, or adding recordings to a file on a network drive may cause this type of problem.
Can you try one more thing, please? Try to create a new, blank Storyline course. Create a short little screen recording along with audio and see if you experience the same thing.
If the same thing happens it may be due to the installation, or possibly drivers for your mic.
If the same thing doesn't happen, it may be an issue with the original file.
Thank you so much for all your help with this issue!
I created a new Storyline course and the audio sounds the same. Should I uninstall and reinstall the software? Am I able to do that since I am only using the trial version.
If it continues after following those steps, we may need to look at updating your microphone drivers. Are you able to tell me what microphone you're using?
I was able to have someone from our IT department come and look at the drivers and I was able to successfully complete the screen recording with audio (Thank you so much for all your help).
However, now when I publish the course to the LMS, the video will not play. I published the course as SCORM and everything before and after the video demonstration plays fine.
That's awesome, I'm glad to hear there was some progress with the audio
Can you tell me what happens when you try to play the video after uploading it? If you overwrote the original course, can you try to clear your browser cache and see if it loads properly? If not, do you see any errors, or just a blank screen, etc.?
Hmm, odd. I'm wondering if it's an issue with the video, course, or the LMS. Can you share the .STORY file here? I'd be happy to take a look, if you're able to share it. If you want to keep it private, though, you're more than welcome to send it over to our support team.
If you decide to submit the course to our support team, you'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:
Please be sure to include a description of your issue. Please also include the URL for this thread in the form. Also, please share the case number with me. You're welcome to do so here, or in a private message. This way I can follow the progress of the case and update this thread.
I'm not sure what steps Keri's IT department took, but if I had a guess they probably updated or reinstalled them. If you know what type of sound card you're using, you should be able to do a search for drivers, or even find them on the manufacturer's website.

Thank you Christine!
That is correct. It is a screen recording and it is only the audio that is sounding too fast.
I do have the file saved in a network folder. I am trying to create a View Mode screen recording.
To save time, is there a way I can fix the issue without having to re-record again?
Thank you!
Hi Keri,
if you haven't already, try moving the file to your local hard drive. Running it from, or adding recordings to a file on a network drive may cause this type of problem.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks!
Hi Christine,
I cut and pasted the course to my desktop. The audio sounds the same as before.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Hi Keri,
Thanks for trying that out

You're very welcome, Keri
Hopefully we'll be able to get this resolved for you!
Actually, yes. However, please try to follow the steps listed in the article below, just to ensure the best results:
Articulate Support > Unexpected behavior in Storyline
If it continues after following those steps, we may need to look at updating your microphone drivers. Are you able to tell me what microphone you're using?
Thanks again! :)
Christine,
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Articulate Storyline and Adobe Flash Reader - the issue still exists.
Would I find the microphone driver information under Control Panel?
Hi Keri,
Do you work with an IT department? If so, they may be able to check this out for you and see if they can update the drivers.
If not, it may get a little more complicated. If you're willing to walk through this with me, I can try my best to guide you through this.
I'm guessing you're running Windows
Can you tell me what version of Windows you're currently running (XP, Vista, 7, 8, etc.)?
Alternatively, do you happen to have a second microphone you could test with?

Good Morning Christine,
The video does not load. It is just a blank screen.
I made sure to publish from a local drive versus the network drive.
Thank you!

So what did the IT people do to fix your drivers? I am having the same problem with audio.
Hi Mike!
I'm not sure what steps Keri's IT department took, but if I had a guess they probably updated or reinstalled them. If you know what type of sound card you're using, you should be able to do a search for drivers, or even find them on the manufacturer's website.
