Audio synching - suddenly issue started

Dec 10, 2013

Dear All,

Today I have faced strange issue in Storyline.

In the project there are number of audio synching slides. It was working as expected till 2-3 hours back. I have no idea what went wrong but suddenly the audio synching which I was set earlier moved by 2-3 seconds.

If I moved the object by 0.5 second to synch with the audio, the difference was setting for 2-3 seconds, means if I moved the object in timeline for 0.5 seconds, it was appearing 2-3 seconds earlier. Similarly if I moved the object back then it was appearing 2-3 seconds later.

I was worried, as many slides were ready with the audio synching. I have restart Storyline but it didn't worked, then I restart the machine. After restarting the machine all slides were working fine with audio synching.

Huh...then I took deep breath

Anyone who faced this issue?

Thanks,

Shailesh

Hi Shailesh,

I've experienced quite a few problems with syncing audio. I gave up depending on Storyline's interface to synchronize objects with audio. What I do now is a use Audition to find the waveform I want to match. Then I place my cue points (visually) in Storyline based on the waveform in timeline. This eliminates the guess and check work while developing.

Hopefully some of this helpful.

Hi Shailesh,

It sounds like odd behavior, which I'm glad was solved by a restart. You'll also want to check that you're:

  • Working  on your local drive (your C: drive). Workingon a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including filecorruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.

Also, are you using the cue points to sync your audio or manually moving them around on the timeline?

If you continue to experience difficulty, and it's with one Storyline file I'd suggest importing it into a new project to resolve any issues, and if it's across multiple projects to start with a repair.  If you're still having odd behavior after that, please share your .story file with us.

Hi Ashley,

My files is on my D drive, and the folder path is around 60 char.

I am not publishing the file but preview the slide.

I am manually moving the timeline to sync.

Sometime also facing the issue of 2-3 seconds of blank space after stopping the audio, even there is no any extra frames in timeline.

Thanks,

Shailesh

Hi Shailesh,

Is your D drive a local drive for you? If not, that could be causing the odd behavior you're experiencing and can lead to file corruption. Since it was fixed when you restarted Storyline, I'd suggest ensuring that you're Storyline file and all accompanying files are indeed on a local drive and continue from there.

If you find the issue occurring, please save the .story file and share it with our team so that we can look into what happened. On the second page of the Support link you'll also have the option to record a screencast of the behavior which may help in diagnosing this one.

Hi Ashley,

Catch the issue,

- Audio synching is working fine in Storyline

- Then I open Adobe Flash application

- Go back to Storyline and check the slide, in both preview and published version the audio sync issue start with 2-3 second difference

- Close Adobe Flash application

- All working fine in Storyline

Hope this will help to find the root cause.

Thanks,

Shailesh
