Audio Trouble with Layers

Jul 01, 2013

Good morning -

I am running into an odd issue.  I have a piece hotspots that open layers.  Both base layer and hotspot layer have sound.

When I click out the the layer, all works fine the first time.  If I close the layer in the middle of the audio, then reopen, it starts from the top of the audio again.  So far, so good.

However, if I let the audio play to the end of the layer, then close it, when I reopen the layer the audio track does not play - UNLESS I click on the seekbar - then it will.play the audio.

I have the layer settings set to Reset to initial state when revisiting.

Any thoughts?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Brent

I am adding a demo file I just set up that shows this - you can run it in preview and see what I am talking about.

Hi there Brent!

Well, I can definitely see the problem - thanks so much for the file.

The one solution I can see for this is to trigger the audio when the timeline starts. Now, if you just let the audio play, it works very well each time. However, if you want to enable seeking, it may cause some issues. This is because once you trigger the audio, it's no longer "tied" to the timeline. If, however, enabling seeking for the audio isn't required in your project, this might be a good fix for the problem.

Hmmmm...  Thanks for the suggestion, Christine.  I will check with my client to see if that would be an option for them.  Some of the layers audio is quite long, so my preference would be to allow the seekbar, but I will check with them.

Anyone else run across this and come up with a different solution?

Thanks!

Hi Brent - don't know why that's happening, but I think I fixed it in the sample file by adding a trigger to the layer.  I added 'Play media Sounds 1 when the timeline starts'.  Then the audio played every time, whether I let it finish or not.  It's at least a workaround that allows the seekbar to stick around!
