Audio/Video out of sync with inserted MP4 video

May 12, 2015

I have inserted a video into my Storyline 2 project (actually, many different videos in many different projects), and the audio/video gets drastically out of sync quickly.  The MP4 file plays just fine standalone, but if I publish it (Flash/HTML5) and view it either locally or from my webserver, the audio/video get out of sync.  Oddly enough, if I preview the project within Storyline, it is fine. I have a huge project that I'm wrapping up this week and this is going to cause me some trouble.

Is this a known issue?  I wish I could post examples, but all of my material is confidential.

Hi, Randy - To start, I would recommend that you try the following to rule out common issues: Please make sure you are working locally as described here, and you may want to try importing the file into a new file. If you are still having issues, you might want to try to repair Storyline.

Also, please be sure that you are testing your published output in the intended environment

Christie --

Thank you for your response.  I have verified the "working locally" process.  I tried importing into a new file with no luck.  I went through the full repair process (uninstall SL2, run SL cleanup batch file, uninstall/reinstall .NET framework, uninstall/reinstall Adobe Flash).  Still no luck.

I am stumped as to why the preview works just fine but the published output does not.

I need to get this figured out -- my training material is absolutely unusable.  Help!

Hi, Randy - You may want to check out the tutorial on Adding Videos. It notes:

Important: Videos will be automatically synchronized with the slide and controlled by the timeline (although you can provide a separate playbar for videos). If you want to insert an interactive SWF file that plays independently of the slide and isn't controlled by the timeline, insert it as a Flash file instead.

I also wanted to add that audio/video can get out of sync if custom buttons are used to start and stop media. If issues persist, you are welcome to submit a support case so our team can investigate this for you further.

Thanks again.  I'll have to submit a ticket.  I've been doing this for almost a year and have had no problems.  I only recently upgraded to SL2 (and last week the most recent update).  I don't know if this started after the upgrade or the update, but it was one of the two.  I've tried everything I can think of, and it's a no-go. I'll submit a ticket.  If I find anything, I'll update this thread.

Thanks.

Hello, I believe I am having the same issue? I am trying to import a video onto a slide, it's mp4 video. When I play the video by itself, there is no syncing issue. However, after importing it into the powerpoint, and exporting it to scorm format for LMS, it is out of sync by 5-10 seconds.. The audio is way ahead of the actual video :( :( Help! I have deadlines :( :(

Hi, Lauren -- With respect to your deadlines, even though I have not seen your .story file, one thing to consider may be the quality of the MP4 video you are using.

Articulate Storyline converts your project into Flash format when Publishing so it becomes viewable using Web browsers. Due to low video quality, the Flash output of the mp4 goes out of sync with its audio. To rectify the issue, you can increase the video quality during publishing. Here's how:

1. Open your Storyline project.
2. Click on Publish > Select your publishing option (LMS, Web, etc).
3. On the publishing window, click on "Quality: Optimized for Standard Delivery" link
4. On the Publish Quality window, move the Video Quality slider all the way to the right (Video Quality should indicate 9).
5. Click on Ok and publish your Storyline project.

Here's an article for your reference:

And again, as Leslie mentioned, you are welcome to work directly with our Support Engineers and may submit a case using this form

I'm having this same sync problem with Articulate Presenter. The video is in sync when I play it by itself. But once installed and previewed in Presenter, the audio is out of sync, and this is before I publish it.

Is there a similar fix for Presenter. I'm pushing a deadline now and really need to get this resolved fast.

TY for your help.

Method 1: importing images, creating text ( transitions in sl 2)in timeline, graphic animations as swf( imported) , importing audio in timeline and syncing with swf.                                        Method 2: importing swf(audio, animations, text - designed in flash) in SL 2.                  Which method gives effective HTML output with minimum time and effort
