Audio will not play in Chrome

Jul 27, 2020

My team is creating an orientation course for students in Rise with some interactive Storyline blocks.  We do not like the look of the play button that appears on the Rise presentation if there is audio on the first slide of the Storyline block so we have created a "dummy" slide that advances automatically in order to remove the play button.  We have used this trick before, but today, the audio will not play in Review or Rise when using a Chrome browser. It will play when using Firefox.  Any suggestions?  Our LMS works best with Chrome and so we would like to fix this bug.  Thanks in advance.

Hi there, Matney!

Thanks for the opportunity to test your file!

I used Storyline 360 Update 42 to publish the content to Review 360. I'm having trouble recreating any issues with the audio there and in Rise 360.

To make sure we head down the right path, could you help me with these details?

  • Which Storyline 360 update are you using?
  • Which version of Chrome are you using? I used Chrome 84 in my test.
  • How does the sound work in my published links?

I am also having this issue: my audio file is not playing without click in chrome browser.

I've updated Articulate and Storyline. I have downloaded Articlate Updated and checked all files. I have the updated version of Chrome. Please help.

This is the audio file that I am incorporating into a Rise course.

Katie,

Sorry for my delayed response.  I was using Chrome version 84.0.4147.105 and Storyline version 3.41.22509.0. I went ahead and updated my Storyline 360 to version 3.42 and am still experiencing the audio problem. There was no audio when I used Chrome and your Review 360 link.  When I open it in Firefox, I am able to get audio.

I have found a few more articles about this and I think Phil is correct. I probably need to add a button for the user to initiate the audio and not an automatic slide transition.  I was hoping to find a workaround to this, but it looks like Chrome does not like the automatic audio transitions.

Thanks,

Matney
