auto updating content menu

May 13, 2014

Hello,

I'm trying to create an auto-updating menu/progress tracker that shows a learner when they have completed each element of the course. I can get the tracker to update based on simple true/false variables and state changes but the course content is split into different tabs (slide layers) and I want to highlight to a learner that they have completed content in a certain tab by adding New to the tab heading (using a state).

My issue is that I only want the state of the tab heading to change to NEW when new content has been completed in that tab - this is where I am struggling. I've got it to work for one of the content list items but am struggling with subsequent content items - I think I need multiple conditions that are parenthesised but this isn't possible! I'm sure I'm missing something obvious so need your help if possible.

I've attached the .story file so you can see my workings so far and hopefully what I'm trying to achieve (there may be a much easier way!)

Any help much appreciated ; )

I managed to solve my own problem in the end so it doesn't matter but thank you for trying!

It is quite a convoluted work round involving 2x true/false variables per menu content item (1 to show that the content has been viewed, and the other to show that it has (or has not) already been counted on the menu slide) and 2 number variables that work by comparing the count of screencasts viewed against the number of menu content items with the state 'selected'...

I may upload the working version at some point if anyone is interested? I'm still convinced there must be an easier way but at least Storyline is flexible enough to cope with my attempts at logic!

Hi Greg,

We're always curious to see another example of what you can set up and do with Storyline, and then offer any thoughts on how to make it easier. If you're looking for other progress indicators or menu ideas, there are a number linked in this forum thread that may help you think through your design and set up more.

Hope that helps!
