Base Layer Being Hidden, And That's Not What I Want
Aug 19, 2014
Hey community!
I'm having a bit of a new problem. I have four buttons on a slide with one rectangle next to them. Clicking on a button will show a corresponding layer with a description inside the rectangle. Clicking on another button will hide the previous button's description and show the most recently clicked one. This worked up until yesterday.
Now when I click on a button, the new layer is shown but everything on the base layer is hidden. I've checked both my timeline (all objects on the base layer are set ti visible) as well as the layer settings - Hide Objects on Base Layer is not selected.
Any thoughts on how and/or why this is happening and most importantly how I can fix it?
Thanks!

I may be way off but what about the order in the timeline? Could something be hidden because it's not brought to the front?
Hi Jonathon and welcome to Heroes!
I'm sorry to hear about the odd behavior with your file, and thanks for letting us know what you already checked into. Even though you checked into the "hide objects on base layer setting" - you will still want to check the elements within the base layer timeline view while on the layer itself, as they can be hidden there individually as well.
You also mentioned that this is a new issue that happened overnight, so I'd also want to confirm that you're working on your project files as described here:
You may want to try importing the file into a new Storyline project to see if it resolves any of the odd behavior.
Please feel free to update us after you're able to check into those elements.
I too am having this problem. Nothing is hidden nor are any settings set to hide base layer objects when layers appear, however whenever an additional layer is displayed, all base layer objects are hidden.
I've just copied my slides into a brand new project and that appears to have fixed the problem, hopefully this fix works for you Jonathon.
Thanks Andy for sharing that solution here - and the import of files into a new .story file is generally a good first step to resolve some odd behavior, especially after confirming you're working with local project files as mentioned.
