Base layer object visible on slide layer despite setting against this

Jun 09, 2016

Hello,

I have a slide where a learner may click on a few custom-made buttons (i.e., images to which I have attached triggers) to view slide layers. On each slide layer, the setting for "Hide objects on base layer" is checked (it is clearly working for most base layer objects).

I would like to give my custom-made buttons a visited state; however, when I attach a trigger for changing the state of the button, the button (in its new state) is visible when viewing the corresponding slide layer.

I attached two close-cropped images: one showing the button in its normal state on the base layer, and the other showing the button appearing on the slide layer despite other base layer objects remaining hidden.

Is this a bug or as designed? Am I missing something required to make my intended design (user clicks custom button, button is hidden on slide layer, button's state is changed upon revisiting base layer) work?

Hi Jacob,

Did you check that the individual item was also hidden on the slide layers? you can do this from the timeline where you'll be able to toggle the eye icon to choose if it's hidden on the layer as well.

If you're still having difficulty can you share a copy of your .story file here with us so that we can take a look?

Hi Ashley - I am not sure if the object was individually hidden on the slide layer, though all base layer objects were collapsed and hidden on the slide layer's timeline. Regardless, the workaround I described above (triggering the change of state when hiding the slide layer rather than showing it) seems to be robust for my purposes. Sorry I don't want to experiment further right now!
