Best way to add definitions (not a glossary)

Jan 13, 2016

I am creating a training that needs to list documents that are necessary to the function of a clinical trial. I need to list ALL THE DOCUMENTS and then provide a brief definition of each. I have broken it down to documents needed in beginning middle and end of a trial.  I am on the beginning now. There are 35 documents. I'd like the user to click beginning and then all the document names will appear. then, when user clicks each document, I want a caption that defines the document and its purpose. How in the good lord's name do I accomplish this ask without making 50 layers? is there a hover text option? Will each document name need to be in its own text box?

If you want a description of each document when the user chooses it, you need to have the documents names each in a separate container, and each description in a separate container.

There is no way around it. That's why they pay us the big bucks, to do that kind of repetitious work :)

You can use hover states, textboxes that appear on a hover, layers, or markers, but for one name to bring up one description, they have to be distinct entities. Explore markers- either the built-in ones, or custom ones - they may be just what you want.

Hi, Jennifer -- I see that Walt has provided you with a great answer here, but I wanted to stop in to note in case you weren't aware, we also have a forum for design-related questions called Building Better Courses. You are welcome to post over there also in case others may have some additional ideas they can suggest. And please feel free to post your final product if you'd like to share some inspiration with others! :)
