Better way to filter searches?
May 31, 2012
This isn't actually a Storyline question, but I posted it on 5/14 in General Discussions and it wasn't resolved, so I thought I'd try here.
Is there a way to filter searches, maybe with Boolean expressions? There are 2 things I'd like to be able to do:
- Search Through my Own Posts
There are times that questions come up that could be solved by responses I know I've given, but I've found no way to quickly find these. Keyword searching rarely uncovers them, so I resort to browsing through my replies. I've seen the link to "Threads with posts by you", but this again involves browsing. - Filter out responses
That is, I'd like to be able to JUST look up Q&A's relevant to Presenter or Storyline
Hope that's clear..

Hi Rebecca,
As far as I know, this isn't possible. It would be great if advanced search functionality was on the list of features for the next forum upgrade.
This is not elegant, but one potential work-around is using your email as the search engine (IF your email allows you to search your inbox). Here's how:
I know that this will not be appealing to many because of the huge volume of mail it would generate, but I did this during the Storyline beta and I was almost always able to find exactly what I was looking for quickly and easily.
Perhaps it's worth a try - if you don't like it - just go back and change your forum subscriptions from Yes to No.
Hope this helps!
Jill
Jill, you and I would work well together. We clearly have similar organizational styles. I'd already begun doing that, but it frankly wasn't the solution I was hoping for. I DO appreciate your reply, though.
Do you know where we could request this as a forum upgrade? Would it be at the standard feature request URL?
TX again!
Thanks for the suggestions, Rebecca and Jill. Yes, we always welcome feature requests of any kind here.
Another solution you might consider is using Google and the site:community.articulate.com parameter. For example, here's a search for tabs interactions posts on E-Learning Heroes.
Hi Guys,
Tx for the .
I''ve just now tried to submit a feature request but am getting an error message: We are having trouble posting your request. Please try again in a bit...so I will.
Gabe, TX for another interesting Google search term. There are so many!
@ Gabe - ooh, I like that Google search idea - gonna use that one! Thanks!
@ Rebecca - it's always great to find a kindred soul! If you want to swap freelancing ideas/stories - PM me!
Google is great for this forum it seems to index the site within an hour
Sure thing!
@Rebecca: If you continue to have trouble with our feature request form, will you please let me know, along with your OS and browser/version?
Thanks!
Gabe, I tried a couple times a few hours ago. Stopped, tried again just now, both with FF 12.0 and IE 9.0.6. Same error message each time:
I haven't exited/restarted FF...too busy and too many tabs open! I DID exit, relaunch IE to no avail. I've NOT emptied cache/cookies and not rebooted PC. Need to stop now (husband may divorce me otherwise )
Can you submit this request for me. I'm afraid it will get lost in my TO DO pile. If not, not worries. Just let me know:

FILTER OUT RESPONSES
That is, I'd like to be able to JUST look up Q&A's relevant to Presenter or Storyline, or any individual app without coming up with all the extraneous and irrelevant information.
P.S. Sorry, Windows 7 is the OS.
Gabe,
I have tried again to submit a feature request. I cannot do so with either IE or FF. I have rebooted my computer, and in the case of IE, deleted all temporary files, cache, and cookies. What do you suggest?
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Rebecca. I just did some testing and figured out that the issue is related to the ampersand (& in the text (apologies if you receive several feature request confirmation emails, but I did eventually get your actual request submitted when I removed the ampersand).
I'll log this issue for our development team to address.
Thanks again for the feature suggestion and for inadvertently discovering this issue with our form!
No kidding! An ampersand embedded way down in the text. Never would have sorted that out. Tx for submitting the request and glad to help
Sure thing, Rebecca! After a bit of testing, I realized it had to be related to one of the characters in the description field.
Thanks for the information!
