Blocked file corrupted cannot save

Apr 26, 2019

Hi I have been working on my projects and recently Storyline denies me the access of saving my Files, and i cannot even rename them to save, it keeps showing me an Error message that says "The project file cannot be saved.Unknown block type might, stream might be corrupted". What does this mean as i cannot make changes to the file now and it is corrupted?

Hi Sibusiso,

I'm sorry you've hit a snag with your file! That error message is one I'd seen in Storyline 2 that often indicated an element of corruption. Are you using a newer version of Storyline, like Storyline 3 or Storyline 360?

I'd start by confirming you're following along with the best practices outlined here to prevent corruption. Next, you can try looking in your temp folders for an earlier copy of that project.

Here's how to check:

1. Open this folder in Windows Explorer:  %Appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2. Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3. Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4. Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

If you'd like our team to take a look at the file and pull some error logs from your system, you can start a case here.
